Written Directions

8-10 miles west of Brevard, N.C. on US64, turn left onto US178 (check fuel), approximately 50 miles of switchbacks and 5mph curves through the woods (sorry no Grandma's house) ending at I-85 Ex. 21 Northlake, S.C. One known fuel stop at crossroads of US123 @ halfway through run.

Scenery

This ride starts (or ends) in N.C. at the junction of US64 and US178 Rosman, N.C. and proceeds south through a beautiful wooded area that rises and falls down through the countryside. No steep inclines, but there are some switchbacks with a speed limit of 5mph. Numerous side trips available to various waterfall locations throughout the trip. Fall is the best season, as you are also treated to the changing colors. I drove this in a 75 ft. long semi and have marked it as a return trip on the bike.

Drive Enjoyment

The pavement has some areas of concern, but nothing really serious. Mostly along the sides where gravel is occasionally present on the road surface. It is a twisting turning road that will test your attention and elevate the experience. The road condition is as of the time I drove this road @ 5-6 years ago. I have driven many many roads in my lifetime... @ 3 million miles altogether, and this one stands out in my mind along with only one other.

Tourism Opportunities

There are a few roadside restaurants and inns and (1) one known fuel stop approximately halfway down at the crossroads of US123 in S.C. A sidetrip to the Jocassee Gorges Management Area and Twin Falls may be just what you are looking for to add a variation to the ride.

Good ride. The Northern 1/2 has great corners and requires thinking. Southern 1/2 is nice easy riding. Makes a nice loop when combined with US 276.
