Starts and ends in Locust, NC Half-way point in quaint little New London, NC. Follow map above.

Scenery

40 miles of rural paradise - near Charlotte. The Awesome Austin Road Loop is all quintessential North Carolina rural back-roads paradise. Hilly, windy roads in perfect condition, through farmlands, past a winery (near New London), a few quaint little towns. Perfection! So beautiful you'll want to loop it twice.

Drive Enjoyment

The Awesome Austin Loop is all sweeping curves and rolling hills through farmlands and woodlands and a few little towns. The pavement is in perfect condition, and there is very little traffic.

Tourism Opportunities

Before you get to New London, on the right you'll see The Uwharrie Vineyards and Winery where you can taste 15 wines for one price. The food is fantastic too! In tiny little New London, fill up your tank and your belly at Fast Stop. Pastries and snacks are legendary - especially the bacon donuts! The people are sweet & kind and the prices are too. (If you have time, ride to the top of Mount Morrow at Mount Morrow State Park - just outside Albemarle, South of New London)

Rode the loop on Saturday - very enjoyable. Once I hit New London, I added a side trip to Morrow Mountain and Badin for lunch (Badin Inn) The best part of the trip was Austin Road, so next time I'll do that twice (there and back) rather than the other part of the loop.

Rode this a few weeks ago. Nice route with some rough patches though. Worth the drive. I made a wrong turn somewhere and wound up on 27, which sucks, so I missed a portion of the full loop.
