Written Directions

Start your route in Moab, UT and head south on Utah State Route 191 for about 23 miles and you will come to the town of La Sal, UT (really just a school building and gas stop) and at this point you need to get on State Road 46 and head east toward Colorado. This road turns into Colorado State Road 90 when it crosses into Colorado. You take this all the way into Nucla Colorado.

Scenery

Great views of the La Sals, big valleys, farm country, and desert - all on one road. The road follows a stream along the edge of Mt. Peale - elevation 12,721.

Drive Enjoyment

Just a little two lane starting 22 miles south of Moab. Look for significant twisties in the middle and long straights deeper in Colorado. This road sneaks up on you because the first few miles are extremely mundane - don't be deceived - the middle section is losing tons of elevation and following the path of the river through the La Sals.

Tourism Opportunities

Get gas in Moab - next stop Nucla or Naturita. About 85 miles. The route also passes through the Manti-La Sal National Forest.

We started this ride from Dove Creek CO coming out of Cortez/Durango. Just west of Dove Creek head north on SR 141. The scenery was beautiful valleys and curvy section on the way to SR 90 where you pick this ride up on the way to Moab. This is the way to get to Arches from Durango if you have extra time and want to enjoy the ride off the interstate. The roads were medium quality with some small tar snakes and other areas with brand new asphalt. I guess there are in the middle of upgrading the hwy here and doing sections at a time. We ran into road construction on 141 south of 145. Naturita is really not that small and is a nice stop/start. From there to Moab, you'll see lots of bikes riding the road. Curves make it interesting and the views are wonderful.

This ride is breathtaking. THe valley from Paradox to Naturita has a long straight road, but the most amazing views to either side of jagged mountains. As you drop in from the west, the valley opens up in front of you and is stunning.
