Written Directions

The route bigins in Phillipsburg, NJ which sits just 20 or so miles from Allentown, PA. Pick up Route 519 North in Phillipsburg, NJ just off of Route 22. Simply stay on Route 519 from Phillipsburg to Newton to Colesville. At Colesville you need to get on Route 23 and take it North (left) in to High Point. The first clue you're in the highlands area is your view of the Water Gap in Harmony Township... beeeeaaaauuuutiful. Note: Following 519 is tricky in Newton. And, about 55 of the 60 miles of this route take place on Route 519. Just the last 5 or so miles take place on Route 23.

Scenery

Rolling rural hills of the "highlands" area of New Jersey. No turnpike exits or chemical plants here. Overall you're going to see some nice farmland and rolling hills and be taken to the highest pont in New Jersey and take in a nice view. If you like rural riding, you'll enjoy this ride.

Drive Enjoyment

Fairly smooth winding, rolling 2-lane road whose speed limit ranges from 15 to 55. Some twisties.

Tourism Opportunities

Not much goin' on in rural Northwest Jersey (cow tippin?), besides, you're there for the ride aren't you? A few eateries here and there.

Rt 519 is also known as the War Veterans Memorial Highway. An incredibly beautiful ride. Two warehouses (3 mill SF) are proposed on 585 acres of farmland Rt 519 and Foul Rift Rd., 12 miles from the nearest interstate. At peak hours, 850 new truck trips will be added to Rt 519. We are advocating for a modified agriculture zone promoting traditional farming, farm-to-table, farmers market, etc. Motorcycle riders have a voice that needs to be heard. More tractor trailer traffic chip away at the beauty and enjoyment riding on one of Central NJ's premier scenic roads. Warehouses are part of our new supply chain, but not in the middle of an agricultural area 12 miles for a highway. Please help us stop this poorly-sighted development. If you are running the river Northbound from Phila and want to keep on keepin' on 519 is the way to go. One thing I've found on 30 or so drives up this road is that it is disjointed and difficult to follow, which makes it not useful as a through way. So if someone is tailgating you, odds are they are local and will bail out before long, leaving the road to you. Plan about 3.5 hours from Philly to Lafayette NJ. Don't be surprised if you lose the route.

Outstanding ride. First 20 miles N of Phillipsburg is freshly paved and like glass. Fairly straight in the southern 1/2, twists pick up in the N 1/2. Saw a black bear walking around some dude's front lawn about 3/4 of the way through. 519 turns off several times, but didn't miss any. Went up to high point, over to Milford and down 209 to 611 to complete the loop back to easton.
