Just a note: This is mostly a new expressway (4 lane). It is neat how they put it through the mountains. If I would want to make time across the mountains it's great. Check out many of the 2 lane roads over in that section of the state. The section of Rt.48 from I-81 near Strasburg VA to Wardensville WV is still 2 lane and also beautiful.

As of 2017 they keep expanding this road more and more westward. The goal is that by 202x they'll reach 219 past Parsons. Lots of hills were blown up so this road could be made. Very pretty, especially in the autumn. This road doesn't receive its due credit.

Update from West Virginia’s Road Ranger (July 31st, 2020): Pavement is smooth as a baby’s ass, as of June 2020. They’re nearly at Davis now, so feel free to ride it all the way down. They’re calling 2023 for it to be done to be run into I-79. I very, very much look forward to it. As usual, check out www.wv511.org for any construction that may be around.
