Written Directions

Really easy to describe ... in south eastern Ohio, just take state route 78 between Glouster and McConnelsville.

Scenery

Southern Ohio at it's finest ... tight twisty roads with a boatload of elevation changes. After McConnelsville it opens up to more of a fast sweeping road and tightens again. Its a real blast, enjoy. I have never seen a law enforcement type on this road, but be careful it is rural and there can be farm equipment out there as well as wild life.

Drive Enjoyment

Recently repaved in Morgan county. As mentioned above ... this road is a GREAT collection of twisties with elevation changes. All of 78 is kick @#&* but this section was recently repaved summer of 2005!!!

Tourism Opportunities

Both Burr Oak state park and Wayne National Forest are located on this route.

Have ridden this stretch of OH-78 several times with the last being on 8/10/19. Currently there is road construction on the bridge over Muskingum River that connects McConnelsville and Malta, down to one lane, read construction should be completed end of October, first of November 2019. If your expecting anything like The Dragon/US-129/Deals Gap, your going to be disappointed, it's nothing like that. However... it's still a great ride! Twisties, banked sweeper, nice scenery. Road surface is in pretty good shape. Boondocks BBQ & Grill about a mile north of McConnelsville on OH-60 is a GREAT place to eat! 78 east of McConnelsville to Cladwell is a nice ride too, takes you right by Big Muskie.

Rode this today (Thursday) traffic was light with a couple of trucks. Nice sweeping curves with pavement in decent shape. Took time to look at the scenery which takes you back in time. Had signs for Amish horse and buggies. Came upon one. Have done the Tail several times and this isn't as intense but still a good ride.

As has been stated by numerous people, I'm not really sure what the correlation to this road and the TN/NC Tail of the Dragon is. If anything OH 536 is EASILY twistier than this, but that road can be a real pain in the ass. This is more of a main road and is usually in a better state of repair. Certainly worth the effort if you're on 555, since they cross over. Have fun, but don't expect the moon. It's not THAT good.
