Written Directions

I started in Wheeling and followed Rt88 south to 250 south all the way to Fairmont. Then on to 19 south to 119/33 south west.

Scenery

There are a few things here and there to look at but this ride is mostly about the challenge of the road. However you do get to see some small towns and a couple of nice vista style views.

Drive Enjoyment

Over all this route was in good shape. Some of it was even new pavement. However you do always have to watch for rough corners or corners with stones. I took Rt 88 south from Wheeling to rt 250 south to Fairmont. From there I took 19 south to 119/33 south west. The route had a good mix of tight switch backs, small 90 degree plus turns, long sweepers and a little back and forth from right to left. It will keep you on your toes the whole way. Not to mention that the majority of the time the speed limit is 55. There are many blind corners on this route. Ride during the day. On some of the fun parts turn around and go back through. Its a blast.

Tourism Opportunities

You pass through many small communities. The larger towns have everything you need. There are even a few small multi service stations that you can fill up with gas and have an ice-cream for a brake.

Can't comment on the Southern Route, but I did a dry run of the Northern Route outta Fairmont, WV yesterday in a SUV. Plan on riding it early next year.

Fairly decent pavement. I saw no loose gravel or road fallout whatsoever. Checked out the Covered Bridge in Barrackville and in Hundred. Missed the one in Moundsville.

As far as the motorcycle aspect goes I felt like the "party" really didn't get started until Hundred, WV. So much so that when I do the run I will more than likely just start the route from Moundsville and stop at Hundred and loop back.
Good Scenery, Nice Twisties but very narrow in sections, lots of blind stuff so keep you're head and don't fly faster than your guardian angel or gear will protect ya!

Well, there's three prongs to this. As of late 2019, 250 is really only any good south of Cameron, WV. North of Cameron the road is not in great condition and there is increased traffic, due the Marcellus shale companies and their trucks, as well as there always having been a bit more traffic the closer you get to 40/70. Once south of Cameron, though, while there are 250 falling away bits, they're marked well and the road is quite a peach. It starts straightening back out south of Hundred, WV. 79 is 79. Not an exciting road. Good views, though. 119, as mapped, is a decent road, but traffic can be a bit of a pain, and it always seems to be under some sort of construction. Not bad, but not really good, either.

I rode the northern half of this route with three other riders in June, 2012. We were going to drop down from Parkersburg and then take this exact route, but we were in the third day of a four day trip and we decided the original plan was farther than we wanted to ride that day. We crossed from Parkersburg to Clarksburg on 50 and then took the northern portion of this route. It had some lovely curves and I would recommend the entire route based on what I saw of it. In the end, the decision to shorten our day's route was a good one because it began raining about 10 minutes before we stopped for the night. If we'd done the entire route, we would possibly have been in the rain for hours. Rain plus strange, curvy roads, hmmmm, no thank you.
