Written Directions

Start out in Round Rock, TX. Head west on FM 1431 into Texas Hills country through the towns of Marble Falls and on to Kingsland, TX. Turn around and head back when you feel like it.

Scenery

This route travles through the Texas Hill Country. All near the gorgeous Highland Lakes area. This area is especially beautiful in the spring through June when it turns into a utopia of wild flowers. The first flowers to bloom are Bluebonnets and they are quickly joined by red Indian Paintbrush flowers which makes for a blanket of blue and red flowers covering the fields. Later in the season, these flowers are overtaken by various yellow, red, and white flowers ... you've got to see it to believe it.

Drive Enjoyment

This road is very twisty and has several hills to go over. The road is very smooth and clean. From Cedar Park there is only one stop light and then next one is not until you get to Marble Falls

Tourism Opportunities

Take FM1431 out of Round Rock Texas West towards Marble Falls. Stop in Marble Fall and have lunch on the lake. There are several camping areas around the Highland Lakes, as well as great restaurants. The Lakes themselves are the best part. If it gets too hot just pull into one of the parks and take a dip to cool off.

Road is ok. Traffic is pretty mild for an area so close to Austin. Road is pretty much 2 lane, double yellow the whole way although it goes back and forth 2 land to 4 lane etc. So, good luck with the slow ppl in front of you. Some wicked hills, but not much to look at the whole way except trees, a few river/creek crossings, but then again, this is Texas.

1431 is a great riding road. However, the entire eastern half of this route is currently under major construction....widening, utilities, etc.
Until this is finished a more pleasant route from Round Rock would be up to Hwy 29, then west to Bertram and south on 1174 back down to 1431. 1174 is short but sweet.

The last of this run was great but most of it was in a lot of traffic and nothing special. Even the fun part had many hidden driveways and I passed at least 2 police who obviously knew it was a favorite ride for the locals.
