Written Directions

From Cosby Tennessee take TN 32 to Waterville Road, Mt Sterling North Carolina

Scenery

You will be riding thru the Cherokee National Forest and Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Drive Enjoyment

The road is almost prefect with virtually no traffic, except for the last 1.6 miles. The pucker factor is that last 1.6 miles is a down grade of about 10% on dirt, so don't ride in the rain or shortly after a rain. Overall it is mostly twisties with altitude changes.

Tourism Opportunities

None

Motorcycle Road Additional info

To me it is one of the best roads I have ever been on. I also really enjoyed that last 1.6 miles.

I camped close to this one so decided to take it on. For a new rider, this was a challenge and made me question why I chose it! Thankfully, I was on a small nimble Rebel 250 that is very forgiving, otherwise I believe I would have been in trouble.

Wow.... talk about tight corners. I had to laugh as some of the corners are so tight the pavement marking rig couldn't paint the lane markings around the turns. Lots of turns and only one car on the road when we were on it. It's kinda out there and remote so have some gas in the tank and other than a few houses there isn't anything on the road. The last mile or 2 at what would be the SE part(?) is dirt and only one lane. The dirt part was pretty well maintained. I would not want to run a full bagger down that road.

So I rode this yesterday, but not on my bike. I had seen the reviews and description here, and vowed that when in the area, I was check out the road. I was in the area on a day-trip, but was in my SUV. I came in from the NC side from the intersate, and came in via the Waterville Road which you can see on the map, but it's not noted as part of the ride. I did not see any gravel/dirt section as noted in other reviews, so I wonder if the Waterville Rd bypasses the unpaved section? That said, it is very twisty and narrow, Waterville is considered a 2-way one lane road, so be alert to meet other vehicles. Since I came in from I-40 from the NC side, and I want to ride that stretch on my bike, this should be easily combined with other rides from the region.

I will definitely come back on my bike some day.
