Written Directions

Start your route in Yardley, PA and go north on State Route 32 through New Hope, PA. Continue heading north while following the turns of the Delaware River. Shortly after you pass through Upper Black Eddy and Narrowsville, 32 will run into 611. Take 611 north for your last 9 miles till you reach Portland and the conclusion of this approximate 50 mile route.

Scenery

Routes 32 and 611 are tree lined and run along the beautiful Delaware River. The northern part of this route includes some incredible cliffs that add to this superb scenery of this pocket of Pennsylvania.

Drive Enjoyment

The roads are nice and smooth, rolling, with a few twists. The northern part is the hilliest of the route.

Tourism Opportunities

The route passes by many beautiful parks including Tinicum Park, Delaware and and the Ralph Stover State Park (look for the signs!). Along the way you'll pass through the town of New Hope which is a very interesting town that includes many antiques shops, restaurants, and retail stores. If you want to see a famous landmark and another great park that isn't exactly on this route, you can go about 6 miles south of this route's starting point in Yardley and check out the Washington Crossing State Park. This is the actual location where the famous "Crossing of the Delaware" by George Washington took place.

I rode most of this in the late September/Early October 2009. Missed the foliage by about 2 weeks. Its a great ride anytime, but, if you can get there during the height of the leaves turning, this is one of the most scenic places in the USA. I took NJ 29 north to Frenchtown and crossed the river and stayed on the PA (PA 32 and 611) side the rest of the way to Stroudesburg. An FYI for loud pipe owners: New Hope has a noise ordinance and they enforce it. If you don't have stock pipes, stay in NJ. Lambertville has a lot of restaurants and atmosphere.

CAUTION: Rt 32 has two sections closed due to past floods, which will have you riding some great back roads. Still a great ride, but start with a full tank of gas. If lost, head for Rt 611 (PA), for food and gas. New Hope can be crowded, so try and arrive early in the day.
