Written Directions
From Blue Ridge Parkway, take NC 215 South (toward Rosman)approximately 8 miles. Turn right on Macedonia Church Rd (NC 1326) which turns into Silversteen Road (NC 1309). Road ends at US 64 about 1 1/2 miles west of NC 215.
Scenery
A nice alternate to the southern part of the famed NC 215 between the Blue Ride Parkway and US 64. You can ride the best of 215 and use ride this stretch to extend the fun. The road is densely lined with Mountain Laurel in places, and there some very nice views. In places, you get that wonderful feeling of passing through a tunnel of trees. Some really nice flowing creek views too, with some opportunities to pull over and enjoy.
Drive Enjoyment
Very curvy but mostly flat. If you like curves, you'll like this road; it's mostly tight turn after another, and it's also mostly flat. The road quality is generally good and many of the curves are well canted. There's some buckling pavement though, so don't get overzealous on a sport bike. This one is for the scenery. Light traffic.
Tourism Opportunities
Be on the lookout for the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PERI) a non-profit radio telescope research facility that gives public tours on Wednesday (reservations required). Otherwise nothing but a few pullouts.
Motorcycle Road Additional info
A serendipitous discovery when traffic was unexpectedly detoured off NC 215 and fell in love with the scenery. Nice technical challenge too with all the curves. Part of the road goes through public lands, so development is minimal. This is a nice alternative to the southern part of 215. It's like extending the challenge for another 20 miles or so.
