Written Directions

Route begins in Reeds Spring, MO (at the intersection of hwy-76 and hwy-413), and ends at the intersection of hwy-76 and hwy-86 (about 3 miles east of Cassville, MO).

Scenery

Roller coaster is the best description I can think of for this route, as it's not just twist and turns, but constant up and downs as well. Absolutely one the most exciting roads I've ridden, and I'm from Arkansas where we have a LOT of exciting roads. The national forest section is a constant back/forth, up/down, again and again. When I ride far enough north to reach Missouri, this is the route I go for. Now I'm looking forward to other great routes in Missouri.

Drive Enjoyment

The road is mainly twisties, but not 20mph twisties, so you can keep some speed through the curves. Road conditions are 5-star (no grooved or broken pavement). And let's be honest, when you're pushing the corners, the road conditions can make or break a ride.

Tourism Opportunities

Only a few as much of the route is in the national forest, but there's gas/food/lodging in Reeds Spring and Cassville.

Rode the route in June 2020 from Cassville to Reed Springs (36 miles). For me, a backroad route from NW Arkansas to Branson. Reed Springs is about 10 miles from Branson West. The road is in great condition, but no shoulders. Lots to twisty sections, a few curves that can sneak up on you. Due to the up and down, a few curves are blind coming over a rise. New riders may need to slow down for some of the curves. May get behind someone pulling a boat or camping trailer that may take a while to pass. Most of the ride is through forest, so don't expect spectacular views. If you are coming from Reed Springs, Cape Fair is about 8 miles away. Nice view when you cross an arm of Table Road Lake. There is a quickstop in Cape Fair. When you come to the intersection of Hwy 39 South, there is a scenic overlook about 2 miles south that has a nice view over Shell Knob and Table Rock Lake. The town of Shell Knob is another mile. The Shell Knob Cafe is a small cafe a few blocks west off of Hwy 39. A burger and atmosphere. Shell Knob has gas, groceries, and a couple of restaurants. If you go across the bridge, there are a couple more eating places. Cassville has gas, fast food, restaurants, WalMart, etc.

This is a fantastic road...The name definitely fit. Great sweepers and some nice curves. It goes up and down just like a roller coaster. A very fun road even for us, coming from California which has some of the best roads in the country. And Yes, we have ridden all over the country. I/we would highly recommend riding this road. It is for intermediate as well as advance riders. It has chevrons at almost every turn, so you will know in advance when you are approaching the next curve.

rode this route july 2020 one of the top rides in this area. try to time it so traffic is minimal and enjoy the twisties. i live in the area usually go. on down into ar. this route combined with 86 heading back east is an outstanding option for a shorter run.
