Written Directions
Route begins at the Crittenden Co. Courthouse - Marion. Travel north on SR 91 to intersection of SR 135, (10 miles). Turn left and follow SR 135 through Tolu and Carrsville, (14 miles). At Carrsville you will turn right on to Church Street and leave SR 135. You will travel up a steep grade on Cave Springs Church road. On Cave Springs Church Road, looking to your right you will see portions of the Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois. Follow Cave Springs Church Road to its intersection with SR 133. You are only two miles north of Mantle Rock and will be riding the last portion of the Trail of Tears in Kentucky. For more information and tours visit, https://www.mantlerock.org/. Turn right on SR 133 (north) and travel to intersection with SR 137 turn left (west) then right on US 60 (west). This will take you to Historic Smithland, KY ON River Road. River Road and runs parallel to the Ohio River to Smithland, (18.6 miles). You will travel through Birdsville, Bayou and run close to the river with several pristine views of the Ohio River.
At Smithland follow US 60 to the intersection with SR 453, turn left at the flashing caution light. This leads to Lake City/Grand Rivers (14 Miles). SR 453 is winding, up and down hills and a scenic ride. There are numerous amenities and very good restaurants in Grand Rivers and The Lakes area. You can catch a show on Friday and Saturday night and the Kentucky Opry, www.kentuckyopry.com in Draffenville, eat catfish at the Catfish Kitchen or enjoy some boat sinker pie at Patti's 1880 Settlement in Grand Rivers. From Lake City, travel east on US 62 to Eddyville, (12 miles). At Eddyville/Kuttawa you may visit the Old Kuttawa Beach, the Fortress on the Cumberland-KY State Penitentiary or one of the many restaurants.
From Eddyville travel US 62/641 east to the intersection where US 641 turns north toward Marion, traveling through Fredonia, (17 miles) ending up at Marion.
Scenery
You will see dense forest, Ohio River overlooks, flat river bottom land and curvy hills. Overall this is a leisurely day ride filled with beautify scenery, great places to eat and the enjoyment of riding through Western Kentucky. Drive Enjoyment
Few potholes if any, pavement is relatively new. You will have to watch for wild life; deer, turkey, etc. Encounters tend to be hazardous especially in the early evening hours.
Tourism Opportunities
Few amenities this is a back country, scenic tour. Gas and food at various restaurants in Marion, Smithland, Grand Rivers & Eddyville. There is rustic camping at Dam 50 in Crittenden County and at Birdsville. There are a number of camp sites in and around the Kentucky and Barkley Lake area.
