Written Directions

From the town of Jefferson, CO, just head south on Route 77 all the way past Tarryall Reservoir and continue down Route 77 till you run into US Hwy 24 and the town of Lake George, CO.

Scenery

The scenery is wonderful. All kinds of wildlife were roaming the day we rode. This is particular stretch of Colorado mountain road covers some flat terrain but has multiple rock formations along the way. One looked like a small version of Devil's Tower. Also along the way you'll pass by and want to check out the Tarryall Reservoir.

Drive Enjoyment

The first 1/2 of the road is new pavement. The other part is paved also but older and has lots of potholes.

Tourism Opportunities

There isn't much along this road. No gas stations, or Food Marts. There is a Lake with restrooms about 1/2 way. Services can be found in Lake George, CO at the end of the run.

Motorcycle Road Additional info

Here is a link to a slideshow of my entire trip. I put 1,200 miles over the 4th of july weekend across the CO western slope of south central mountains. Bagged a bunch of scenic roads. Might add a few roads and reviews soon. Check out this Online Photo Album - View the weather forecast for this area from Yahoo weather .

I rode this in Oct of 2017 as part of an annual father/son motorcycle trip my father and I take (we go different places each year). Bottom line is this is simply a fantastic route as the scenery is among the most pristine in Colorado ... you'll see tons of beautiful rock outcroppings & cliffs, green pastures, mountains, rivers, and the very beautiful reservoir. To make it every greater, the pavement looked new and there were probably 3 or 4 cars we say the entire trip and it has many nice gentle winding curves as well as a few twisties thrown in. Solid 5 star road!

It looks like most of the reviews are older. I rode this about a month ago, June 2017, and it was fantastic. The road is brand new for about half and a few years older for the rest. No potholes. The views are amazing, I did it going East first and then back West. Going West you get amazing views of the mountains jutting up in front of you. I ride fast, and there were almost no cars on a Sunday afternoon and and plenty of places to pass. The turns are not too tight so you can really open it up. It's pretty remote, I didn't see any police and I can't imagine there are many out there. Coming from Denver I was pretty low on fuel by the time I got near Lake George, but there is gas there. This is now one of my favorite roads around.

I noticed the submission date is July of 08. I was on this road in September of 08, and it is far and away the WORST ROAD IN COLORADO. There are more potholes per mile than you can possibly count. It's not just the number of potholes but the size of DOZENS of them is more than 6 feet wide. A notice to anyone wanting to try this road is DON'T. There are to many other decent roads in Colorado.
