Scenery

The Mount Diablo Summit is a beautiful view that takes you up ~3800 feet and offers an astonishing view of the San Francisco Bay Area and central valley. On a clear day you can see the Sierras to the east and the Golden Gate Bridge to the West. As you ride up will quickly pass through small hills to a quick climb up short technical turns through light trees and golden grass.

Drive Enjoyment

You will encounter several 25 mph turns on this ride, and even a few 15 mph corners. Be careful because the altitude change is very rapid and they are almost never banked for your convenience.

Tourism Opportunities

At the summit there is a visitor center that gives you an elevated look about the Bay Area. They have a nice little 20 min movie describing the park and some of the Geology surrounding it. There are no restaurants or gas along the route, but within 5 minutes ride from either gate you can find gas and food. I suggest Rocco's Ristorante Pizzeria in the first shopping center you pass coming out of the North Gate. There is camping aloud on the Mountain, it's best to talk to a Ranger if you want to look into that.

This is a state park, it'll cost you $10 for the ride. Do some laps if you want, it's fun in either direction.

Motorcycle Type : Standard
Rode from Livermore to the peak of Mt Diablo & back, nice run through the foothills then up the 11 mi. twisty to the peak. You start of under the clouds, ride through them, and come out on top of them. Unique geo for the East Bay / Alameda. Lots of cyclists so you'll want to be careful, but the view from the peak can't be beat!
