Written Directions

The road through the Stelvio Pass goes through the Stelvio National Park northeast of Milan. There is only one highway to remember. From the town of Bormio, take SS38 north to the pass, then continue on SS38 down the other side to Prato allo Stelvio. For some reason, Google maps does not allow a map to be generated using the exact path described above so the map above is only a small piece of the route. If you want to see the full map, I've created a Bing Map that shows the full route.

Scenery

The Stelvio is one of the most famous passes in Italy. The route goes through the Stelvio National Park and is very mountainous. Snow remains on the slopes well into the summer months. This pass borders Switzerland, and there is a road from the pass that will take you into that country.

Drive Enjoyment

From Bormio, you will experience over 30 hairpin turns and a couple tunnels. On the other side are almost 50 hairpins. The road is well maintained. You will never forget this trip

Tourism Opportunities

There are no amenities until you reach the pass itself. There, you will find restaurants, retail shops and lodging. Check out Tibet, a mountaintop restaurant with a fabulous view of the pass.
