Written Directions

Take Trans-Canada Hwy/BC-1 west out of Banff. Continue on AB-93 north to Jasper National Park.

canada road ranger

"Arguably the nicest road in Canada. Spectacular vistas cutting through beautiful mountain passes, with more than 100 ancient glaciers. Stop at Lake Louise for a fabulous view behind the hotel. Very crowded parking lot, but ask for the motorcycle parking. Amazing ride."

Scenery

This ride takes you through the heart of the Canadian Rockies past teal glacial lakes. Some of the most beautiful mountain scenery in North America!

Drive Enjoyment

Good quality pavement all the way through, fair amount of twists and turns. There might be a fair amount of RV traffic during peak season.

Tourism Opportunities

Not much along the way, so standard Canadian travel rules apply (i.e. fill up every time you get a chance). Longest stretch without gas stations is about 150 klicks between Sasketchewan River Crossing and Jasper.

This is a great stretch of blacktop that runs along, through, and over the Canadian Rockies. Plenty of wildlife, from Mountain Sheep to Bears can be seen/spotted during virtually every trip. Mid week in July/August is the best time to travel (less tourists/RV's on the road. Fuel & food is expensive in places like Saskatchewan Crossing and Lake Louise, so take that into consideration. Also, remember that even in the summer, once the sun goes down in the mountains, it cools off considerably, so pack your gear with that expectation in mind. I have plenty of pics from this area and have ridden hi way 93 quite often. Sometimes solo, and sometimes leading a group of up to 20 bikes.

One of the highlights on the route towards Alaska. Lots of elevation changes and twisty turns. Don't get in a hurry or you will miss the spectacular scenery or get to close and personal with wildlife. Over 100 glaciers visible from roadway.

Like Hwy 40 in Kannanaskis this ride is a laid back cruise with a heavy, heavy, heavy emphasis on scenery. Jaw dropping scenery. Ride it on a clear day if you can. Avoid the side trip to Lake Louise, in summer, as you may be stuck all day in traffic just getting up to the parking lot.
