Written Directions

Start in Walhalla, SC and head north on route 28, cross the SC/GA border, stay on route 28, cross the GA/NC border, and head into Highlands, NC (then end point).

Scenery

Beautiful National Forest scenery. Mountains, Rivers and Waterfalls ... a great sampling of 3 states in a nice 30 mile run! Travels through the Sumter National Forest and later Nantahala National Forest.

Drive Enjoyment

Plenty of tight curves as well as some long sweepers, nice transitions. For the pavement, the majority of the road is in good shape. Once in the forest area you can twist the throttle and drag your knees.

Tourism Opportunities

Not a lot between Walhalla and Highlands, so, fill up before you leave Walhalla. No restaurants or other facilities for miles.

I am going to give this a 3 for this moment due to the fact that we were caught in a awful thunderstorm. Just be aware that there is no shelter once committed and that the road does hold water. RIDE SAFE!!!!

Also known as the moonshiner route. Had a near miss with a deer who was in a hurry to cross the road. It seemed like he jumped and then saw me and accelerated somehow while airborne. Whew... Great ride and short cut up to the mountains
