This route is the standard couple hour ride from El Paso, or starting in Las Cruces. Many alternate farm roads up and down the valley, but mostly follow the hwy 28, and farther south, take the 182. On the 28, you will cool down as you pass though enormous pecan orchards. The biker bar in the area is El Patio, in Old Messila on the north end of the ride. To extend the ride into a full day trip, continue north from Las Cruces on the 185 to Hatch, stopping for lunch at Sparkys, home of the best green chile cheeseburger in the state, as well as outstanding bbq. There will be a big line at Sparkys on weekends.

I've ridden this often. No twisties and the speed limit is 50 MPH, but it's pretty scenery, peaceful and a good road to decompress on. Oh, and the best Mexican food in the world is at either end of this ride.

Nice, peaceful country road, plenty of farms and livestock present. Runs parallel to the Franklin and Organ Mountains. Lots of riders including cyclist, so it can be a bit busy especially on nice weekends. Road ends in scenic Old Mesilla, lots of cool places to visit while there.
