Written Directions

The ride starts just north of Williamsburg, VA at exit 243B off of I-64. It has MANY turns and you will need to review/print the Google Map above.

Scenery

Farms, reservoirs, trees and friendly neighbors. It winds past York River State Park towards Richardson Millpond, Goddins Pond winding it's way through New Kent County before making two passes over Diascund Creek Reservoir. I grin 90% of the ride!

Drive Enjoyment

Some fairly technical twisty roads with some good sweepers. Caution - some of the roads have the tendency to have gravel from construction vehicles building new homes. Also, be careful of the groups of Cyclist that often travel this same route on weekends ... please share the road.

Tourism Opportunities

Gas can be found at the start and end of this route. A little further down the road are plenty of places to get a bite to eat as you'll be in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg. When you're done your less then 6 miles from I-64 and less then 10 miles from the Williamsburg Outlet Mall area.

I just came back from riding this route. Actually I only rode part of the route. The ride didn't start off well. The Directions here stated to take exit 243B of I 64. It is actually exit 234B. Those numbers got transcribed somewhere along the line. After searching for Newman Road for about a half hour I finally consulted my trusty Maps app on my iphone and discovered I needed to head another 9 miles north. The State Routes very VERY narrow, basically 1 lane, but were supposed to support two way traffic. The quality of the roads was rather scary. Very rough rutted pavement that liked to reach up and grab my front wheel on occasion. The scenery was quite nice. Very rural areas, horses, farms. The ride got cut short because half way through the ride there was a detour on SR600 that routed me to Hwy 30. I took Hwy 30 to Hwy 33. To continue on the route I was supposed to turn on Stage Road off of 33 but I missed the turn which was just prior to the entrance of I64. So I just got on 64 and headed back to Virginia Beach. I plan to take the entire route again just to say I did it.

This frequently 1.5-lane-wide route with limited visibility, iffy maintenance, and many residences right up on the road is probably a fine cruiser route, but it doesn't offer much for sport riders.
