Written Directions

Ride starts in Richmond, VA and ends in Ashland, VA. Starting intersection is Cary. Street and River Road. Head west on River Road (Rte 650). Cross over 288 and turn left on River Road/Patterson Road/Route 6. Turn right on Hockett Road (Rte 623). Turn right on Broad Street (Rte 250). Take an immediate left on Ashland Road (Rte 623). Follow Ashland Road and bear right onto Ashcake Road (Rte 657). Take a left on Center Street Road which leads into the center of Ashland (Center St. and England St.).

Scenery

Route rides along the gorgeous James River and crosses into farmland as you make your way towards Ashland, VA. The route starts out in Richmond and gets you heading west along the River before cutting north-east towards Ashland. The second half of the route is farmland and gentle rolling hills. The route ends in a small college town with a wonderful coffee shop (Ashland Coffee & Tea) which often has live music.

Drive Enjoyment

Lots of sweeping curves along the River. Flat as you cut north-east with lazy curves. Road quality is smooth.

Tourism Opportunities

There is a Starbucks at the start of the ride, but you won't pass many amenities until you reach Ashland, VA, which is a very small college town.

2015 February 08. The start on river road is horrible, rich people can't drive at all. River road itself is very slow turns especially with traffic. Now there are a lot if gigantic houses that's cool you pass which was pretty cool along with some big churches. The churches looked like mini schools. Once you cross over rt 6 it picks up a bit. Some Turing here and there nothing to grand. When you cross over broad street and get closer to Ashland you get some nice turns and a few long switchbacks. So overall if it isn't a lot of traffic you get some good riding in. Biggest part is I never saw a cop, but be careful passing Hunting Hawk you might get hit with a stray golf ball. LOL. Other than that, not a bad ride 3 thumbs up.

It was a nice afternoon ride. Very relaxing, sweeping turns through farmland with a nice view of the sunset during a good portion of the ride.
