Take Route 48 east-southeast out of Ruidoso to US 70. Go southwest (right) on US 70 then take a left on to route 244 and head southeast. 244 will swing southwest and you want to take that into Cloudcroft. Then get on US 82 west and take it all the way into Alamogordo.

Scenery

This is a beutifule route with great scenery and twisting roads. High altitude. Not much traffic.

Drive Enjoyment

Good road quality. Lots of twists. No gas stations. Beautiful scenery.

Tourism Opportunities

Not much of roadside amenities.

Very nice road, one of my favorites, peaceful ride in the Rockies, a few twisties near Cloudcroft Village, nice sweepers along the way, all through Mescalero Apache Indian reservation. Awesome ride to Ruidoso. Best route from South to North

Fantastic ride! Twisty roads in good shape and places to stop, eat and shop. Pretty much year round riding fun.

Very nice route, which can be turned into a loop by passing through Tularosa, to visit the pistachio farms and wineries. The ride from Cloudcroft to Alamogordo is very nice, but tends to leave you stuck behind an RV. Better on the uphill, because of some short passing lanes on the uphill. Very nice brew pub in Cloudcroft, or on weekends get in the huge line at the barbeque joint. Don't forget your rain gear. In summer you can get caught in surprise storm, and in even in summer you may be surprised how cold it can be in Cloudcroft, especially before noon. Its 9000 feet, making it a perfect escape from the desert heat. But sometimes, more than you may have expected.
