Written Directions

Leaving Hope, BC, Canada, not far east of Vancouver, head east on Highway 3 (Crownest Trail) to Osoyoos, BC, and I recommend even going beyond it, as you'll see on the google map - https://bit.ly/3gjMQtG

canada road ranger

"Hwy #3, also known as the Crowsnest Highway, between Hope and Yahk, is a 710 km ride of phenomenal beauty. This is the western half of this ride. Lovely roads carving through the Rocky Mountains. Plenty of gas and amenities along the way. Take a moment to pull over at the site of the Hope Slide, which is 18 km east of Hope. The Hope Slide was the second largest recorded landslide in Canada, occurring in 1965, and killing four people. 47 million cubic metres of rock fell."

Scenery

Mountain highways sweep from small town to small town. You'll have a lot of roadside turnout to stop to take a break while admiring the view. Take in incredible mountain views, forests, and desert during this trip, including some great little towns and even oddities like the very strange Spotted Lake, right before Osoyoos.

Drive Enjoyment

Being a mountain highway, you're going to have a few bumps in the road, but it's nothing that you'll remotely be concerned about. Instead, enjoy the fact that you'll rarely be vertical during large portions of this trip, taking in sections that range from long, sweeping curves to quick, twisty switchbacks.

Tourism Opportunities

Gas up as you leave Hope, and you'll never be lacking for fuel along the way. Stop in at Osoyoos for lunch at any number of great little restaurants in this desert town that sits pretty much right next to the US border and expect incredible weather where it's not uncommon to see 40C/104F during the height of summer, and as you leave town, you'll make a rigorous climb up switchbacks to a great lookout over the entire valley.

Motorcycle Road Additional info

I recommend taking this road all the way to Castlegar, BC, or even Banff, AB. If you do make it to Banff, Highway 93 between Banff and Jasper is one of the most scenic roads you can possibly take.

Lots of curves, forests, rivers, lakes, fruit growing and wine region. Nov 2021 rains caused havoc with road between Hope and Princeton. However road crews have been working non-stop to repair over the winter and spring. Saw lots of work completed when driving through in March 2022.

Cannot recommend this more highly. The towns of Hope and Princeton were nice albeit a bit busy as it was the summer tourist season. But the rest of the trip was relatively quiet and absolutely beautiful. Some great sweepers, twisties and straights. Wonderful day when I rode it!
