Written Directions

Near Osage Point Park, start your route on New Prue Road. Head north for about 3 miles and turn right on to Route 99 in Hominy, OK. In Hominy, take a right on to Route 20. Then follow Route 20 east-southeast and cross Skiatook Lake. Cross over the Skiatook Lake Dam. Turn right (south) on to Lake Road. Continue on Lake road past Tall Chief Cove entrance road and Lake Road will turn east (will change names to W. 103rd St. North). Take a right on to North 52nd West Ave (you'll actually be heading south at this point). The road curves east and ultimately turns into North 41st West Ave and the route takes you down to West Apache Street where it will turn east and take you to Tisdale Expressway where you can take that wherever you want to go.

Scenery

Nice almost high plains type drive curves and hills. Some wooded areas once you get back toward Skiatook Lake. Really an unusual nice fun ride for this part of the country, a good afternoon trip. For anyone in midtown Tulsa it is a quick way to get out of town to a country ride with very little traffic.

Drive Enjoyment

The road quality is generally hilly with some sweeping curves. A couple of twisties mixed through the ride. A wide variety of brand new pavement and some older rougher pavement NO gravel on this route.

Tourism Opportunities

The county road section has no roadside amenities. I have to admit it makes me curious why such a nice road even exist. Once you get back toward Skiatook lake there are several places to stop and fuel or dine. At Cross timbers resort there is a really nice little lakeside restaurant that is a great stop. The casino at the north end of the Tisdale expressway is never a bad stop if you like that kind of thing. The Gilcrease Museum is also a good diversion. The museum is just south of Apache on Gilcrease museum road. Truely a world class museum of western art.

This ride is a decent beginner run, but nothing to write home about. The roads are excellent, but in the 45 mile run, I passed no less than 7 cops. On a quick stop in Hominy to check my map/instructions, a pair of SUV cops pulled up behind me and just sat there waiting for me to do something stupid. That's one of those WTF?!?! moments. I'm probably not going to revisit this for a long time, just because of that. I'm on a crotch rocket, I MUST be trouble.

Tied into this route from New Prue Rd. Nice ride. Plenty of views of Skiatook lake and pasture land. Tying together this route with the Prue Rd. route made for a nice loop from west Tulsa.
