Written Directions

This is a ride our motorcycle club begins the riding season with. Start on Missouri Hwy61 in Festus, MO.heading south. Stay on hwy61 south until you reach Sikeston, MO. Eat at Lamberts restaurant (a must..the food is awesome). On the return route you can reverse the trip or hop on Interstate 55 north to St.Louis. (Caution, the map often shows the path following Interstate 55 yet this route is specifically traveling along Highway 61 (this is just because Google Maps tends to want to direct folks to use a nearby interstate vs. a state/local road)

Scenery

As you leave the St. Louis metro area heading south on hwy 61, you enter many small river towns along Mississippi River.

Drive Enjoyment

there are a lot of meandering turns on this route that make the ride fun and peaceful. The road surface is great which makes for safe execution of turns at higher speeds.

Tourism Opportunities

There aren't many roadside attractions on this route, although there are many scenic areas for photo opportunities. The main goal of this route is the ride and the destination--Lambert's Restaurant "Home of the throwed rolls." (Their phrase not mine)

Motorcycle Road Additional info

Here is a tip for those of you that like home cooking...you may be tempted to eat lots of food, but during the ride home you will sleepy (trust me, it happens to me every time.) Thus the more direct route back to St. Louis.

Not a bad road just I was hoping for more river sightings. I like some of the county roads that branch off like "V. ". They have more hills, turns and scenery. 61 is more like hwy.

This is definitely a "cruising" road. While there's lots of smaller towns, once you clear the St. Louis exurbs and turn south at the US 61/US 67 split just south of Festus/Crystal City, the road opens up between the towns with speed limits of 55-60 MPH and sweeping turns and rolling hills. And, while there may not be a lot of tourist attractions directly on the highway, both Ste. Genevieve and Cape Girardeau have multiple historic sites, plus you can take a quick detour just before Perryville on Hwy 51 and cross the Mississippi River into Chester, the home of Popeye.
