Written Directions

This road is in Portage Indiana (follow the online map above). It begins at County Line Road, heads northeast, and ends at US HWY 12. Highway 12 is also a scenic route I have included on this site.

Scenery

A short jaunt through the heart of the Indiana Dunes. Plenty of wildlife (beware of herds of deer), sand dunes and flora and fauna.

Drive Enjoyment

This road is relatively flat but has many twists and turns which is somewhat rare for this area ... a nice change of pace. The road quality is fair blacktop with a few potholes. There are spots where the asphalt gets sand covering it (it IS the dunes after all).

Tourism Opportunities

This road is only a couple miles long, so there are no gas stops, restaurants or shopping on the road proper. However all these things are minutes away in Portage Indiana.

I went on it yesterday after work and it does have quite the twists, but it's in a residential area, speed limit is 20 and the road may have gotten a lot worse than when you rode it. I saw many holes, cracks and grooves. We should get that repaved and it would be much more enjoyable.

Known as "rubber road" to high schoolers, and we're not talking tires. Windy road between industrialized US20 with busy truck traffic and US 12 which is a delightful, forget your cares of the world, forested windy commune with nature.
