Written Directions

If you want to take this route from the south to the north, start the route by finding your way to Ducktown, TN (which is about 70 miles south of Knoxville, TN near the TN/GA border). From Ducktown, simply take TN route 68 north all the way to Telico Plains, TN.

Scenery

A pristine country setting with mountains and creeks in abundance. There are also some very small communities along the way.

Drive Enjoyment

This road is not for the novice biker. Good road condition and some very tight turns and lots of curves. Hwy 68 runs into Ducktown, TN to Tellico Plains, TN. From the south end of it you can route from the south to connect to the Cherohala skyway.

Tourism Opportunities

Nothing really to do other than just enjoy the scenery and the awesome road twists and turns. From either direction fill up with gas because it might be the only opportunity you get. This route passes through the Cherokee National Forest.

This stretch of road is not for beginners. I've ridden it roundtrip one time and one-way another time. I rode it last Friday night from Ducktown to Tellico Plains and do not recommend it be riden at night. During the day on a perfect day it can be hazardous in a couple of places if you're not paying attention. Be extra careful with the 2 railroad crossings, on one you can jsut about go airborne if not careful. Not much traffic but once in a while someone coming from the opposite direction can come on to your lane. My GPS came in real handy giving me a view of the curvees coming up ahead.

Very nice road for sport touring or touring bike. Cruisers probably won't enjoy this road due to lackof beer joints and lots of curves.

Nice ride, lots of climbs on this windy road. Be careful and wait for the passing zones if needed. Very rural check fuel before riding. Telico is a good base camp for many great rides.
