Begin in Walland, TN where Foothills Parkway meets US 321 and travel South-West along the Parkway to US 129 (of Tail of The Dragon fame).
Scenery
Several pull-offs for sight-seeing along the Parkway offering views of the Great Smoky Mountains on one side and portions of the Tennessee Valley on the other.
Drive Enjoyment
Road quality is good. Some small patchwork areas, but nothing that should cause any major hazards. Several sweeping turns and a few sharp ones along the way.
Tourism Opportunities
No amenities along the Parkway or at the US 129 end. Stop for fuel and food in either Maryville or Walland before getting on the Parkway.
Enjoyable going up and gliding down. While compared to some of the other roads in the area, it's not much on twisties. It was a nice ride when connected to other roads. Make it part of your day. It's more of an appetizer than a main course.

The section shown on this loop is the old original first section opened. In late 2019 the next section was opened (finally after 30 years). It extends from 321 over to Wears Valley the "other" 321. So this new section added another 13 miles to the original 17 miles. Both are fantastic and definitely worth the ride. Stop at overlooks. to the south you see the Smoky Mountains. To the north you see the Maryville and Knoxville valleys. Deer, Turkey, Hawks and the occasional coyote can be seen along these roads. and the elevation changes and curves will warm you up to get you ready for the Dragon. Patrolled by both Blount county sheriffs and NPS police. It is NPS so the tickets are federal and high! Definitely worth the trip and ride. Do it!

One of the best ways to get to the Dragon. make sure you stop and take some pictures from both sides of the road.
