Written Directions

Starting from Oak Ridge, TN, and go west on highway 62 for about 4 miles to the town of Oliver Springs,TN where you want to turn right (north) on to Rt 116/330 and take this up to Lake City where it intersects with I-75.

Scenery

Lots of mountain vistas, see Brushy Mountain max security prison and ride through part of Frozen Head State Park.

Drive Enjoyment

surface is good, may have some gravel in turns, watch for coal trucks on weekdays, very twisty and mountain grades. Note: Sections of this road have very sharp curves. Be careful!

Tourism Opportunities

Aside from a stop for a mountain vista, not much in-between, no entrance along TN 116 into Frozen Head park; eat and gas up at either end.

Rode Highway 116 Oct 17. Great ride! Would like to do it again!! Road in good shape, not many pot holes. Steep climbs with switch backs. Don't get caught in to high of gear in the steep climbing switch backs.

Great ride. Road surface is not great in places and the trucks entering the highway are a concern, but I believe it was as tough as the Dragon. It was raining when we went over and a truck had gotton stuck in the curves. Outside of that, It was great. Someone needs to set up a shirt shop for sure!
