Written Directions

Cty P runs east from Coon Valley, crossing Hwy 27 just north of Westby and continues east and continuing to carve through the drifltess area. At the intersection of Hwy 131, follow the signage north through Rockton and then east again. CtH P then ends at Hwy 82 a few miles west of Hillsboro.

Scenery

This route lives in the heart of SW Wisconsin's Driftless Region. Twisty roads, bluffs, and the coulees of the Kickapoo river valley. Fall colors bring out the best views, but any time of the riding season provides excellent eye candy

Drive Enjoyment

The western part of this route (Coon Valley to Hwy 27) is on fairly rough tarmac, with the surface greatly improving as one rides east. The road is a good mix of sweeping curves and wiggly twisties, with the most technical riding toward the eastern part of the route. As this is farm country, keep an eye out for machinery and gravel in the corners. The area also has a substantial Amish population, so be cautious of buggies and horses.

Tourism Opportunities

Coon Valley has food and fuel, as does Hillsboro to the east. Stockhouse Grill and Saloon in Coon Valley is a good meeting place. Rockton Bar in Rockton has excellent Sunday chicken-Qs every Sunday (make reservations). Hillsboro has a great brewpub in the Hillboro Brewing Company serving great sandwiches and excellent pizza.

Motorcycle Road Additional info

Just east of Rockton, keep an eye out for 24 Valley Road and follow it to the Blue Goose for Pizza or Ice Cream. A bit hard to find, but well worth it.

This is a great route. The road is a touch rough in places, and may be a few stones from time to time. The turns are worth it.

I was going to put this guy in. The Driftless Area has lots of great roads, but many of the county roads have mediocre pavement. "P" east of Westby is very good, with less gravel on curves (any road with 12-36 in. of gravel shoulder will have gravel in 90% of tight corners). There is a tourist map with all of the side roads or pick up a Delorme atlas. South on County S about 4 mi. east of Westby off "P" thru Bloomingdale as far south as you see fit is nice, too

County P is in terrible condition right now. It seems unsafe to ride, at least to me. Hopefully, the state will put some work in fixing it up. Currently blocked 10 miles east of Coon Valley.
