Written Directions

https://goo.gl/maps/RrKr2nEDsaB8ZVxW9 For convenience I’ve started and ended this at Freedom Power Sports motorcycle store. I have no connection to the store nor is this an endorsement. An alternate would be to start at the intersection of State Rte 143/108/Waleska Hwy and Henderson Mountain Rd Head northeast on Riverstone Pkwy toward Ball Ground Hwy Turn left onto Fate Conn Rd Slight right onto Heard Dr Turn left onto Lower Bethany Rd Lower Bethany Rd turns slightly left and becomes Hornage Rd Slight right back onto Upper Bethany Rd Left on State Rte 143/108/Waleska Hwy Immediate right onto Henderson Mountain Rd After 3 miles Henderson Mt Rd makes a poorly marked right turn. If you continue straight the road turns to gravel. Turn left onto Jerusalem Church Rd Turn left onto Salacoa Rd Turn left onto GA-140 Turn left onto Riverstone Pkwy in Canton. Riverstone Pkwy will lead you back to the start. An alternate is to turn right onto Rt 108 (Fincher Rd) at the 4-way stop in Waleska, GA. This will take you to State Rte 20. Just before State Rt2 20, turn left onto Mt Carmel Church Ln. Where this lane ends is the back entrance to the Georgia National Cemetery. It is a place for a slow and respectful drive as you pass the nearly 2000 men and women who gave all for our freedom.

Scenery

Mostly rural farms and forest. There are some really nice areas with some nice Tree canopied "S" turns. Toward the top of Henderson Mt are some long range vistas through the trees. At the bottom is a peaceful private lake.

Drive Enjoyment

The actual traversing of Henderson Mt is the best section. Although it's just under a 600 climb it's a 11% grade with some significant turns. The other sections are very pleasant.

Tourism Opportunities

There is nothing aside from the ride along this route. The lake is private so nothing but to look at it if a break is needed. The crossroads town of Waleska has a small 1400 student University. It does have a service station, small grocery store and sandwich shops.

An alternate is to turn right onto Rt 108 (Fincher Rd) at the 4-way stop in Waleska, GA. This will take you to State Rte 20. Just before State Rt2 20, turn left onto Mt Carmel Church Ln. Henderson Mountain road and Salacoa Road are both great, however this route is missing some important roads. Heading north on 140 from Canton, hang left on either Pucket Creek Rd (Which turns into Sam Nelson Rd) or catch Sam Nelson Road a short bit up 140 from Pucket Creek. Sam Nelson dead ends into 108 (Fincher Road). Take a right heading north and watch for Little Refuge road on the left about a mile up. This takes you by the entrance to Lake Arrowhead. Little Refuge Road takes you back to 140 bypassing Waleska. Left on 140 and a mile down 140 you'll hang right on Salacoa. You're not going to want to miss these roads especially if you're on a sport bike.
