Written Directions

You can catch this road from Sherman (TX) by taking the 1417 loop east from Hwy 75 at the south end of Sherman, TX. 1417 ends at Hwy 11, turn left & go just over 1 mile. Hwy 697 is on the left - there are 2 churches on the north east corner. Turn left and enjoy the ride. Hwy 697 ends at Hwy 69 at the north side of Whitwright, TX. You can turn right & go about 1/2 mile to Hwy 151 & go left into the down town area for restaurants. Or, stay on 69 south for another 1/2 mile for gas & snacks.

Scenery

road runs along the top of a ridge. Lot's of trees, creek bottoms, very scenic.

Drive Enjoyment

this road has 20 sweepers and twisties. The road is generally in good condition with some patches in a few spots

Tourism Opportunities

there are gas stations & restaurants on either end of this short run in Sherman and Whitewright.

Oh yeah, beware hay trucks and other farm equipment! There are many blind corners where they sometimes hide.

"The old Ida road" is one of my favorites! One of the very few places in North Texas where there are actual altitude changes! Granted they are very suble, but beggars can't be choosers. Like most scenic drives, it is prettiest during the morning and dusk. The road is more "technical" that skyline drive, but not quite as technical as 337. The only thing bad is that it's to dad-burn short!!!
