I had always heard stories of how dangerous this road was from other riders and TV. But learning to ride in the mountains of the southwest prepared me for the technicality of the ride. In fact the only part of this road that felt even remotely dangerous were the other people on the roads that would overtake you like it was a race course. I'd sincerely suggest taking this road first thing in the morning when traffic is lighter and it's easier to enjoy the ride and surrounds without getting surprised by others on the road.

What can I say that hasn't been said about the Tail Of The Dragon. Probably the most famous motorcycle ride in all of America. A motorcyclist should ride this, almost like a rite of passage. Do NOT ride above your skill level. And watch the traffic. I've ridden this a few times, usually around 7:00 pm. That was good, and I'm sure pre-7:00 am would be good also.

Great ride, traffic slows down most riders. Very technical, lose a few riders every year, I'll bet. Been there twice, I'd go back. Many terrific roads to and from, as well in the vicinity. Great MC country!

Rode the tail of dragon in 2018. Drove south from Louisville to Pigeon forge "Dollywood" followed by a leisurely cruise through the Great Smokey Mountains Park. The road to the Fontana dam was a nice warm up. The super elevation of the curves makes it feel that you are diving into every corner.

Hvae ridden this road on many machines from my 2002 Moto Guzzi Stone to 2012 Burgman 650 a fun road with a lot of traffic on weekends. Much safer and more enjoyable to ride during the week. A lot of roads leading to the dragon are as much fun as the dragon. Heavily patrolled by police. If there is a accident it can be shut down for long periods of time. Ride your own ride and enjoy

it was in my bucket list since I discovered it in 2016... Totally worth. I'm glad I rode it on a weekday, because seems it is always crowded... and some people use it as a "private track"... Just be aware of that.. stay focus and its one of the best 11 miles i have ever ride

What more can be said that others haven’t. If you are looking for beautiful, magestic views then this road is not for you. It does have some but you will not have time for viewing. HOWEVER, if you want a challenging, adrenaline pumping, pulse racing, 11 plus miles of fun, this is the one!! Ridin it 3 times in each direction and looking forward to doing it again soon.

If you are looking for a challenge and not so much scenery (there are better scenic rides close by) this is an awesome ride! Ride your ride. Mistakes can be costly on this 11 mile stretch.

Rode the Dragon numerous times on several different motorcycles and the Dragon never disappoints!! Great Ride!

Last rode 8/31/2018 (Friday, mid-morning) West to east. There were already 177 posts before mine, so not a lot more to say. If you come for the ride, this is 11 miles of pleasure. If you come for the view, go over to the Cherohala Skyway instead. Or better, make it a loop! Time of Day: I would rather ride the Dragon with the sun behind me or more overhead, not in my face. But have to take what is available. Traffic: Just lucky this day. Only one slow-mover in front of me, let me around a first opportunity. No knee-draggers running me down from behind. Not a lot of oncoming traffic, and they were all in their lane. None of this matches previous experiences on the Dragon.

Fun road, but can be frustrating when slow traffic won't pull off to let you by. Better for traffic in the morning. Lots of police during heavy traffic times.

Done this twice. Intimidated the first time due to the hype. Found the roads leading to it are more challenging than the Tail itself. Second time, I was taking pictures of the picture takers as we leaned on corners. We were instructed for the first time do go up it rather than down and go on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday because there is less traffic.

We've ridden it several times, so much so that last time we were in the area, we didn't even bother because of all the other nicer routes around. BUT, you have to do it at least once, just to say you did, and it is a must ride if you have new folks with you who have never ridden it before. Just mind the speed limit (police DO shoot radar on it), and enjoy the ride. Look where you're going. Let your passenger wave at the camera people.

I have ridden it twice, the first time by design and the 2nd time when I was coming back home from my Blue Ridge Parkway ride. It is ok once, get the T-shirt and check it off the block!! It is very challenging for sure, but in the end just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Too many "other dangers" to worry about while riding it (other riders, on-coming traffic....etc). Definitely worth it one time for the bucket list, but the I believe the Cherohala Skyway is a much better ride.

Took a Kawasaki Concours down it and had a blast! I still have a bottle of dragon water on a shelf in the "Man room" from a little store down there. There was a guy taking pictures and if you go to the website on the side of his car, you can find yourself taking turns on the road! Highly recommend!

Fun road. Didn't realize we were riding the dragon until we came to Deal's Gap on our way from Foothills Parkway. Good technical riding. There is a lot of traffic though, which can backup traffic. So early morning or towards early evening seemed best.
