I road this w/ a 2000 XL1200S Sportster Sport H-D @ 52. It was great! The only reason it isn't a "5" is that I would like for it to be even longer!
Now I am 54 and have a 2013 FLD Switchback H-D and am looking forward to getting it down to the Tail of the Dragon to run it through and back!

Pay VERY close attention to your mirrors on this ride. Deals Gap has developed the reputation lately of being a "racetrack" for sport bikes. There are numerous documented cases of passing slower-moving riders on their own lane. Use extreme caution. Also, law enforcement has cracked down on the speed limits lately. No warnings are being given, but tickets issued liberally.

In a Challenger, it was great. Can't wait to try it on two wheels.

Very challenging road... especially in traffic. Lots of fun as long as you stay focused.

Fun road to ride, but very popular with not only motorcycles but sports cars and everyone that thinks they are driving a sports car even if it's a pick up truck. Be patient pull over at earliest opportunity if there is someone behind you. Watch for those that are impatient and pass on curves (yes cars do it too). Best times to ride and enjoy are in the middle of the week on non-holiday periods.

It's a good road all motorcyclists need to do at least once. It should be on your check list if you haven't done it. Then enjoy the other great roads in the area.

A great ride for what it is, a ton of turns in a short space, do it, enjoy it, take a rest and then explore the beautiful rides close by like Nantahala and Maggie Valley.

Rode her 6 times last summer on two different trips. Got some great video with my GoPro. Like some of the other roads in the area better, but there's no photographers. What can I say. On the downside, someone stole my cell phone, which kind of put a damper on the trip.

Rode it Memorial Day weekend, there was traffic but not enough to interfere with the ride. Did a great loop by including the Cherohala Skyway for the return to Robbinsville.

Rode in October, peak colors, was a great ride. Probably not as busy as usual because of overnight rain but road dried up early and was perfect!

Rode last summer on my Can Am Spyder RT Limited and absolutely loved it. The ride there from Tennessee was very scenic and the Dragon did not disappoint. It’s a fairly exhausting ride honestly and was glad to stop in Deals Gap for lunch and a rest. We turned around and rode it again heading back to Tennessee and it’s a ride I’ll never forget. Check one off the bucket list ✅

A fun ride, challenging in places, but hard to enjoy the scenery because of the attention needed for the road, and the traffic. IMO, best to ride during the week....

While I thought this was a good road I think it is overhyped. Some of the other roads in this area are better I think. But if in the area a "must do"

fun ride, definitely glad we road it but 165 was a better, more scenic ride. Overall a great trip, many different types of riders and vehicles travel this road.

I rode almost a 1,000 miles from Kansas to ride an 11mile road... It was absolutely worth every mile to get there... I believe I will be fitting this area and this road into an every three plan...

Enjoyed this ride years ago on a 2008 FJR 1300 AE with my dad riding his Goldwing. It was a great ride, and hopefully, will get to try it again on my new BMW GTL.

I can see why it is rated so highly. Even though I was on 2019 Goldwing I had a blast pushing through the corners. Following up with Hellbender 28 made it even better. The 10 mph corners on Hellbender 28 are 10 MPH !! ride safe

Rode this five times when our neighbors asked us to join them for a getaway. We booked a cabin at Fontana Dam resort and really enjoyed the rides in the area!! The dragon is the best !

an amazing ride! if you like this - go down a ways to the devils triangle- not as congested- but great views. people in these parts are the most friendly you will ever meet! (wish this road was bikes only- watch out for cars and such! was there during the jeep jamboree- and those things don't corner well- stay off road gents.
we made it down- had lunch in the Tapoco Tavern very nice and great scenery- it rained- and on top of the wet roads- they mowed- so debris everywhere- so i think our group got extra brownie points!! so fun.

Fun road. Didn't realize we were riding the dragon until we came to Deal's Gap on our way from Foothills Parkway.
Good technical riding.
There is a lot of traffic though, which can backup traffic. So early morning or towards early evening seemed best.

Took a Kawasaki Concours down it and had a blast! I still have a bottle of dragon water on a shelf in the "Man room" from a little store down there. There was a guy taking pictures and if you go to the website on the side of his car, you can find yourself taking turns on the road! Highly recommend!

We've ridden it several times, so much so that last time we were in the area, we didn't even bother because of all the other nicer routes around.
BUT, you have to do it at least once, just to say you did, and it is a must ride if you have new folks with you who have never ridden it before.
Just mind the speed limit (police DO shoot radar on it), and enjoy the ride. Look where you're going. Let your passenger wave at the camera people.

I have ridden it twice, the first time by design and the 2nd time when I was coming back home from my Blue Ridge Parkway ride.
It is ok once, get the T-shirt and check it off the block!! It is very challenging for sure, but in the end just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Too many "other dangers" to worry about while riding it (other riders, on-coming traffic....etc).
Definitely worth it one time for the bucket list, but the I believe the Cherohala Skyway is a much better ride.
