Used to live in Harbor Springs, so we are very familiar with the trip. Even though we now live over an hour away, it is still a once a year ride for us. Especially during the 'color' time of October. The other great time to enjoy this ride, is mid summer and here are the reasons why. Start your ride in Harbor Springs, not Cross Village. After arriving and enjoying some refreshment in Cross Village, continue north to Sturgeon Bay. This is just another 5-10 minutes north where you can park on the side of the road, strip down to your swimming trunks and enjoy about a mile stretch of Lake Michigan Beach in a very secluded area. Then if you are up to it, you can continue north for another 20-30 minute ride into Mackinaw City and take in the sites there! Regardless of the extended trips I mentioned, this is quite simply the best ride in Michigan!
As Rick stated, the only thing you want to be careful of is sand on the road at times. Did a little fish tail a couple of years back that nearly made the trip too memorable!

I've ridden The Dragon, Three Twisted Sisters and just about every road in Arkansas. If you're riding in the state of Michigan you owe it to yourself to include the Tunnel of Trees in your route. It is not a difficult ride compared to the others, but it is the most beautiful. Lake Michigan is a nice contrast against the lush hardwood forest. I would love to do it when the fall colors are at peak. The Legs Inn is a nice place to eat, but plan on waiting if your visit is on the weekend.

The Tunnel of Trees is THE most beautiful road in the world! Don't miss a stop at the Good Hart General Store in Good Hart - call ahead and they'll have a world famous pot pie ready to eat when you arrive.

I heard about this stretch of road from a chance encounter with another rider at a gas station. It's unbelievable! The trees grows right up to the edge of the pavement -- no shoulders here. Beautiful ride and the best 22 miles of my 1500 mile trip around Lake Michigan.

My friend and I have ridden the 'Tail of the Dragon' and we both agreed that the 'Tunnel of Trees' was far more beautiful, exciting and fulfilling! It had just as many twists and turns...just alittle more stretched out. The beach at the end of it at Cross Village was wonderful as well. I would do it again and again, on or off the motorcycle!

It's true! This is a spectacular road to ride;especially in the Fall. Gorgeous color, beautiful trees, lake views. Must stop in Good Hart to shop and pick up some of those pot pies, then up the road in Cross Village at historic Legs Inn for a bite to eat and some great views.

As many others have said this is a very nice stretch of scenery and curves. Some are very tight so it may not be for you if you like to take them at speed. Watch for cars, deer and bicycles all wanting your lane. If it fits your schedule also try M22 between Manistee and Northport.

We made the 275 mile trip just to ride the Tunnel of Trees and was not disappointed. We went on the 4th of July 2010 and we were still almost by ourselves. You do have to watch for Bicycles and many critters and some loose stone and sand in the curves but it is well worth the trip. The posted speeds for the curves AREN'T lying, they are hard and tight, some beyond hairpin but just add that much more to the ride. We are going back in the fall for the colors.

Nice ride along the shoreline. Lots of turns, but slow going. Might not be too fun on a rainy late fall day when the leaves are dropping and wet. Be careful on the south end, I missed the turn off to 119 the first time I went. Fun little section of road, very scenic and peaceful.

I you are in the area this is a must route. It is second to Tail of the Dragon. Narrow road with lots of curves and covered with trees. I have done both and this is a close second. You have to stop in Good Hart General Store. They have everything, Deli, Bakery, Wine, Beer, Post Office, and anything else you would want. The have fantastic sandwiches. You have to try one. If you are going to Gross Village and like polish food the Legs Inn is a must. Very nice place.

Rode up from Battle Creek thinking we were going to enjoy Cajun food at "Pearl's New Orleans Restaurant" in Elk Rapids, MI, heard about the Tunnel of Trees and decided to spend our last morning riding and we were not disappointed. What scenery, absolutely gorgeous views of Lake Michigan, and yes "Legs Inn" at the end is worth a tour, we did not eat there but the smell, yum! You can walk through the restaurant and out the back to get a beautiful view of the lake. We definitely recommend this ride!!

Hwy 119 is an awesome ride on a cycle. 20 miles of curves & switchbacks while riding about 200 feet above Lake Michigan. The view is fantastic. I think it's the best ride in Michigan's lower peninsula

My husband and I like going on drives, and we litteraly stumbled upon this one, and have been back twice since then. It is in my opinion one of the most beautiful road in the State of Michigan. If you get a chance take this drive, you will not be dissapointed.

Road this route Labor Day week-end on our way to "Walk the Bridge" over the Mackinac Bridge. Took the "tunnel" on a whim and are glad we did. Beautiful scenery starting with Harbor Springs. Need to watch the signage in Harbor Springs to make the the right turn and out to tunnel ride or end up going right through town. Lots or great curves but watch the switch backs. Most are signed as curves but don't give you a true idea of how sharp a curve it is. Hard to stay within the posted speed limits that max at 40 or 45 when you really want to tear into some of the turns. Previous riders are correct, there are limited facilities enroute but Legs Inn was a great spot to stop.Very busy restaurant but well worth the stop. Must have been nearly a hundred bikes there on Saturday afternoon. Did find a littel coffee shop set back in the woods about half way through the tunnel. Lots of hand painted signs leaning up against the trees to let you know. It's part of a little antique shop called Trillium Woods Antiques. Great coffee and baked goodies served by a one woman staff who was very friendly and interested in bikes so easy to talk to. Caught glimpses of the lake but the woods around us was more impressive.Planning to ride it again week-end of 10/6-7 as that is forecast as best fall colors. Have been warned that it will be a very slooowww ride due to all the riders wanting to experience the colors of the trees. Highly recommend this ride for the novice, experienced and anyone in between. You will enjoy on any type of bike. We saw cruisers, sport bikes and even a lot of dirt bikes along the way. Seems like the "Tunnel of Trees" is a magnet to all comers! If you decide on this route just continue north to I-75 and Mackinaw City to ride across the Mackinac Bridge. Only half an hour further!

A friend and I took a ride around Lake Michigan from July 31st - August 5th, 2009. While we were in Traverse City we met some locals who told us about the tunnel. It wasn't part of our original route but it sounded so good we couldn't pass it up. We weren't disapointed. Toward the end of the day we stopped at the famous "Legs Inn" and enjoyed the view and absolutely fantastic Polish fare served in true european fashion. It was fantastic.
I would recommend anyone in the Petosky, MI area take this road and see what all the hype is about. In 1300 miles my friend and I both agree that this was the highlight of the ride. In fact, we loved it so much that we're going to take the ferry accross the lake next year just so we can cruise "The Tunnel" again!

Just a geographical correction - the road hugs the EAST shoreline of Lake Michigan on Michigan's WEST coast. Just don't want people looking for it in Wisconsin. It is a great ride!

Rode M-119 ("Tunnel of Trees") with five friends this past summer (2009). It was arguably the premier stretch of road of our 1,150 miles and I hope to ride it again this year, God willing. Didn't know about the restaurant in Cross Village (where the road begins), but Harbor Springs, where the road ends, is a LOVELY town!

I made a spur of the moment run up to the bridge and used Mortorcycleroads.com to plan my trip. I saved the Tunnel of Trees run for my way home and it was the cherry on top of this trip! If you have never been on this road and you live in Michigan, you owe it to your self to get there!

I ran the northbound route with two other KLR 650 riders Jully 17,2009.AWSOME! This was my second trip and just as cool as the first. CAUTION! NEVER take this ride over the Labor Day weekend, unless you don"t mind sharing the road with a couple hundred bicyc le riders(many of who don"t appear to have any sense or consideration for any one else.) However it was kinda fun Waiting at Leggs to straighten out a few of the dumbest ones... ENJOY

One of the most beautifuls I've been on todate. The twist and turns on this road keep you on your toes. At the end the Leggs Inn is one wonderful spot to have dinner and spend the night in one of their cabins. I'm plannind on riding this route again in the near future.

This road has no shoulders and in several places they have reduced the width of the pavement rather than cut down trees. Beautiful woods with occasional glimpses of Lake Michigan to the west. Be sure to stop in Cross Village and visit Leg's Inn for food, drink and a beautiful view of the Big Lake from the deck. From Cross Village you are close to the Mackinaw Bridge, and further north are the locks at Sault St. Marie.

I have ridden this a couple of times. In a group of 4, or larger group of 20. Your experience will highly depend on who else is out driving that day. First time through got stuck behind an SUV that wouldnt go above 20, and lots of on coming traffic. All "pull off" areas were full as we passed. So no real option to stop and enjoy the beauty.
Other ther time, much less busy. Could enjoy the road at 35-40 mph, and was able to stop along the way. Both times though, you must watch for sand in the turns. Stay single file through it, and pay attention. If that is done you will enjoy it.

This road has a bit of everything. Some nice twisty sections. Probably the greatest appeal is the scenery. Like the name says, parts travel through a tunnel of trees. Beautiful homes, lovely forests. The road is in good shape.

I rode this after picking up a BMW K1600B in Detroit. The ride is nice, but there are a lot cars meandering along this route and the roads are narrow, so you may get stuck behind someone and need to make a quick pass. If you're into collecting rocks, there are little roadside shops where you can get some "Petoskey Stone", which is fossil coral.
