As much as I loved the scenery through the tunnel of trees, the deteriorating condition of the road became distracting. There are some great curves and loopbacks through the woods and opens up into longer stretches. Some of my favorite bike photos are off of this road. The best part of the Tunnel of Trees has got to be the end at Legs Inn for the best Polish food in the state.

Great scenery and lots of fun twists and turns. Watch out for sand low in the corners and you'll have a good time.

Great curves! The road can be narrow and poorly marked. Don't get too focused on the scenery, or you may have an issue. This is one of the most beautiful rides in the state of Michigan. It is worth going out of your way to take a ride through the Tunnel of Trees.

This was a great ride. Lived the glimpse of lake Michigan through the trees. Stopped in Good Hart for lunch before riding on to Mackinaw City. We stayed in Boyne City and used that as home base. We found riding in Northern Michigan wonderful.

I've ridden this route 5 times so far. It's not real challenging, but depending on the time of year, the scenery makes up for it.

Rode in Aug 2019. Would have been great to see leaves changing but the timing was a little early. Great roads and beautiful scenery.

DO NOT GO ON THE WEEKENDs DURING THE COLOR SEASON, Lots of traffic takes the fun out of a beautiful ride, go during the week and enjoy the ride, make sure to stop at the Legs Inn in Cross Village.

We came upon this road as planned starting on the northern end. There is a house sitting on the right hand side of the roar right before you make a rt turn onto the Tunnel of trees. The house has 4 pillars that support the roof of the porch. The bottom of the pillars are cobblestone. We made the rt turn and slowly meandered along. It wasn't long before we had to take our sunglasses off The trees block the sun. Saw a lot of harbors where sailboats were moored and million dollar homes. A very relaxing ride. We have ridden this road twice in our biking travels. The first time I was 54, the second time was 58. I am now 69. We love the scenery slowly winding travel just gliding along. Enjoy the ride.

Nice ride, although we ended up having to do it in the rain, Roads can get slick, especially when the leaves are falling.

If your looking for high adrenaline go to The Dragon. Speed limit is 45 with cautionary limits as low as 20mph. We rode at 30 to 35. This was Monday morning in Mid June and there was minimal traffic. One car going slower than we were pulled over to let us by. We were never blocking anyone and could enjoy the road and scenery at our own pace. Arrived at Cross Village at lunch time so we went to Legs Inn. The road, the lunch, the scenery all combined to a fantastic experience. I'd rate it at a 6 if I could.

Fun ride. My recommendation is to start at the North end and ride South. We went South to North and traffic was SLOW, like >20mph slow. Most of the ride is 45mph. Traffic going South looked much faster. But, this could just be me.

Roads were nice. There were a couple spots with gravel and sand that looks like it was pulled out from a side street. This was a little treacherous because sport tires don't like sand mid-turn. Got a little squirrely from time to time.

Cool views of the lake and beautiful trees. Got luck with a decent day and caught the color changes.

One reviewer said it, keep going to the bridge if you are going North. 30 minutes further and worth it.

Definitely would do this ride again.

Did a round trip 400 miles from home yesterday. The road exceeded my expectations, it is very unique. Pavement was new and while it is a narrow road, traffic was light and all cars were respectful. Speed limit is 45 mph, but i only hit that on a few straights, spent more time enjoying the scenery, trees and the lake. Legs Inn was busy but the bar area was quick and for October had quite a few bikers. Going back with a group asap. Good Hart general store is worth a stop too.

I have ridden this route several times and agree with most comments here, ut would only like to add that a fall ride here will enhance the experience in a big way!! consider it if your thinking about a color tour!

I rode this the first time in the rain. There's a couple turns that had a little dirt on the road but 95% of the road and turns are in great shape. It's like riding a paved trail through the woods. It's about 1.5 lanes wide with no center stripe. This is 22miles of surreal beauty. I thought it was make believe. This is a road every biker should ride. Absolutely amazing

Just did this ride on 6/6/15 as part our our ride around the Lake. Not too much more to add to what has been said about the beauty of this ride.

What was refreshing is that three separate times we came up on cars that just pulled out of a driveway and they were kind enough to pull over and let us ride through. That's very gracious for the locals to do that. You don't get that much anywhere else.

Be careful of sand and gravel! We were sticking to the speed limits and my two boys (I know what you're thinking) fish-tailed on a switch back. Turns our two older gents on a Goldwing and Harley did the same thing. One said he couldn't believe he didn't go down.

As a native Michigander, I sadly didn't learn of the Tunnel of Trees until after I had moved out of state. My parents retired to the Grand Traverse area after my departure and it wasn't until a visit that we drove on 119 on the way up to Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island. We were in an auto and while I thoroughly enjoyed it, I was wishing I was on my cycle the entire time. It is now on my bucket list to get back to Michigan with my bike so that I can ride many of the roads I grew up driving on, and that trip would be highlighted by a route that includes the Tunnel of Trees.

Just rode the tunnel over the Sept. 12, 2009 weekend as a portion of riding the lower Michigan coast line from Frankfort to Mount Clemens. Of the almost 1000 miles it was the best of the ride. I intend to ride it again before the snow set in. I would highly recommend riding it in both directions and watch out for the sand you may encounter. Enjoy it.

I couldn't belive the way this road just winds throught he trees along Michigan's western side along Lake Michigan. This is a must ride road for anyone taking a bike trip along the shore of Lake Michigan. Be prepared to grab some brake and downshift around some of the tight turns. This will test your technical riding ability. The route is M119. if you're in a group go single file as the road is barely two cars wide.

A group of six of us road the tunnel of trees over July 4th week in 2007. It is a great ride with little traffic and lots of scenery! We are going back this year at the end of September--hopefully for the fall colors. I would recomend this ride to all motorcyclists.

This is a terrifically fun road to ride. I did this in late July of '07...there was a lot of traffic. This road is quite deceptively technical, just when you're ready to kick it up a gear, the next corner tightens up.

It's a cool road, but VERY narrow and very busy. The oncoming cagers don't seem to care if they drive in your lane. I'm really glad I was on a bike - if I'd been in a car, several of them would have hit me head-on or forced me off the road. I went on a Tuesday. North to South. Harbor Springs was a complete clusterf****. People walking all over the streets. No place to park. Won't do it again.
