I forgot to mention that the first 100 miles along the canyon walls gives wonderful views of the rivers below, some side roads to old mining camps, and heavily forested mountain sides of conifer trees (with needles that stay all year) rising up on unclimbable slopes, but there are so many curves, it's hard to take it all in. The last 50 miles are less curvy, and have more deciduous trees (that lose their leaves in winter), as you are at a lower elevation.

This route is one for the books. Great scenery and wonderful twisty roads. I went SW to NE, and the end of the route was really fun to ride. Heck. The whole road is fun to ride. I went in Aug 2020 before the fires, so the air was clear and the temp's hot. Very little traffic, with people moving over as needed.
Will I ride this route again? Probably not unless I need to go from the coast over to the highway. But one for the books

This is a great ride, totally agree with the author!!
To add a little thrill take the Forks of the Salmon turnoff at Somes Bar. At Forks of the Salmon continue along the river to Sawyers Bar and then on to Etna. The whole area back there sort of has a Deliverance feeling to it and remember to keep your eyes on the road!!

I really enjoyed this ride.......very quiet part of Northern California with a very scenic route along the Klamath River.
