Hwy. 50-The Loneliest Road:

The main part of this road not around population centers is the 470 miles between Delta, UT and Carson City, NV. However, most people consider the 320 miles from Ely, NV to Carson City to be the most in
2018

I've ridden this route a half dozen times. The intimidation comes in knowing it's publicized as the "lonliest road in the country". Take solace in knowing that there are actually others on the road. A vehicle comes by every ten minutes, or so. Don't expect any quick roadside assistance, however, and don't expect any cell service except near the cities.

Nice desolate stretch of road. Make sure you visit the train museum at Ely. Also, be sure to say hello to Dirt.

From Richland, Utah, I picked up Hwy. 50 in Delta and rode it to Reno, Nevada on my way to San Francisco in June 2020. Hwy. 50 is definitely a lonely road with few towns and very little traffic. It can be described by going over a mountain, traveling in a straight line for 10-20 miles followed by another mountain and straight highway. Needed to watch fuel level even though I can travel 225 miles between fillups. Road was great, but lots of wind. Interesting salt flats near Reno. I did by myself, but recommend a group due to lack of travelers.

Nice ride. Nice mix of hilly sections on this route along with long stretches of road to let er rip.

The loneliest highway is true. Some great sections over the passes. Watch your gas as there are not many stations along the way.

Rode this with 13 others en route to Yosemite NP. My favorite part was after we got past Delta and there was really no traffic for a good long while, except just before and after Ely. From there it was just a nice cruise, albeit a bit warm in Late June. Ditto what was said about extra gas. It's 170 miles from Ely to Tonopah, and a lot of bikes won't make it...mine just barely did. There's also nowhere to get any drinks or food on that whole stretch. There is a really nice oasis of a rest area just west of Tonopah with grass and shade where you can stretch out and spend the night, just be aware there are sprinklers that come on at night on the grassy areas.
