UPDATE: In 2017 the entire north 2/3 of the mountain portion of the route was completely repaved. This asphalt job is the best and smoothest job I've ever seen on a road giving reason to really enjoy the moderate sweeping turns.

Not sure of the 2 stars for "ride enjoyment." This is not only a spectacular scenery route, but with the new pavement, changes of elevation, varied vegetation, and challenge in speeds and curves, this is a 5 star route. It is usually off the radar for most bike riders that pass through when being down in the canyons and river roads nearby is so thrilling.
