Local Tip: I live down below the Parkway and wanted to let you all know about a little secret. During the spring/summer riding season, if you start at the 321 end and go to 129, take a right at the end of the Parkway and go towards Highway 72 on US129. There are some more wide sweepers, beautiful lake views and some neat twisties after you pass the third boat ramp. Just as you come out oft he twisties, you'll come to the intersection of Highway 72 & US 129. There's gas available there as well as a BBQ spot, a small motel (where the bear is) and a repair shop that sells a few bike parts including tires, t-shirts, decals and one of the best burgers in the area. They're only open during riding season, but worth a stop if you're out this way during that time.

Beautiful route! Spectacular views with numerous pull off/parking areas on both sides of the road. There are plenty of views of the Great Smoky Mountains and a few parking areas that provide views of the East Tennessee Valley. This is a road with sweeping curves and good pavement. If riding the Tail of the Dragon and visiting Gatlinburg, this is a must ride.

A great, fun road that's also a nice shortcut from the Pigeon Forge area to US 129. There is no commercial access, no crossing roads, and no driveways to worry about on this one. There is also no food or gas along the road, but it's less than 20 miles long. There is, however, occasional wildlife and downed trees to be watchful for.
Mostly some high speed sweepers but there are a few tighter turns as well. Good elevation changes. Plenty of pull offs to check out the surrounding mountains.
Would ride again. And again.

Many road maps still do not have this listed. It is close to being finished and you can drive up to the Cades Cove entrance to GSNP. Didn't want the traffic of Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge. Nice sweeping curves and a few pullouts for vistas. Enjoyable

Enjoyable going up and gliding down. While compared to some of the other roads in the area, it's not much on twisties. It was a nice ride when connected to other roads. Make it part of your day. It's more of an appetizer than a main course.

Excellent views on the old parkway of Maryville, Knoxville. Plenty of spots to pull off. The new section that recently opened has several magnificent views. It has elevated roadways that remind us of The Blue Ridge Parkway.

Nice ride with great views of the Smoky Mountains. Not a challenging ride, but the views make up for it. There are some pull-off points for photo ops.

Last rode 8/31/2018 (Friday, early AM) (north to south) Headed for the Dragon and Cherohala Skyway from Knoxville. This is a short pleasant ride to get you in the mood for the Dragon. Smoky Mountains on the left, valley on the right. Mostly riding in the trees, so limited views. Some easy curves to limber up. Limited traffic, no amenities. Road in good condition.

The section shown on this loop is the old original first section opened. In late 2019 the next section was opened (finally after 30 years). It extends from 321 over to Wears Valley the "other" 321. So this new section added another 13 miles to the original 17 miles. Both are fantastic and definitely worth the ride. Stop at overlooks. to the south you see the Smoky Mountains. To the north you see the Maryville and Knoxville valleys. Deer, Turkey, Hawks and the occasional coyote can be seen along these roads. and the elevation changes and curves will warm you up to get you ready for the Dragon. Patrolled by both Blount county sheriffs and NPS police. It is NPS so the tickets are federal and high! Definitely worth the trip and ride. Do it!

Great day ride. Travel from 129 via FH Parkway then right to Townsend. On the return trip you can exit the Parkway and take a narrow curvey road to the "Top of the World" area and find your way through Happy Valley back to 129. This is a great area to explore. Your GPS may run short of GPS signal in some areas though.
Enjoy, Be safe.

I've driven this numerous times in a car/suv, and one round-trip on my bike. The trip on my bike was at night, and it was foggy, so I was really on edge (in a good way) and my senses were kicking in. It's not a technical ride, but the view is great, and during my night ride I had the road to myself. I love this ride, and will gladly ride again.
