Living in Colorado I have ridden this route several times. The description is very factual. Good views. This route is one of Colorado's Scenic Byways and is also called the Highway of Legends. It gets this name because the Tarahumare Indians held these summits as sacred and believed that all life on earth originated from the area. An enjoyable road and definitely more enjoyable than Interstate 25.

It's a wonderful road to ride in both directions La Veta to Trinidad then Trinidad to La Veta. Ride it in late Spring for the wildflowers and early fall for the foliage. Outstanding.

I've ridden CO 12 many times. Always scenic and the road is pleasurably curvy. Just a beautiful ride.
