Angeles Crest Highway ACH is one of the best sections of road in Southern CA, it gets less weekend and Harley traffic than the roads near the coast(Mulholland, etc.) Repaved this summer(2013) Weekdays and early mornings on weekends 7-9pm best time to ride, watch for occasional debris/rocks. ACH if one of several good roads in the Angeles National Forest, also see "9 Mile", Angeles Forest Highway, Lower Big Tujunga, Alesio Canyon, Lone Pine Canyon, etc.

Excellent ride! The views were phenomenal! I went towards the evening when I could enjoy riding through the many shadows casted by the zigzagged mountain ridges. There was hardly anyone else on the road. I passed maybe five vehicles the entire length of the trip. I highly recommend this route if you have a few hours to spare.

Great route just be on the lookout for people crossing the double yellow and rocks in the road.

No question the ride is great, but I rode ACH a few weeks ago and won't be riding there again for a while. Either my suspension needs work or the road is needing repair as I felt chatter on the bike for the entire ride, not confidence inspiring at all. Word of the wise, try and go on a weekday. I went on a Saturday and the road was FILLED with CHP, cyclists and cars (who for some reason think it is acceptable to cross the double yellow while going around blind turns to avoid said cyclists).

Nice ride. Great views. Haven't been on since the fires went through - can imagine that you will need to be careful of debris on roadway. Plenty of fast vehicles love this road - groups of sports cars, sport bikes, and touring bikes can make for a busy road. Always someone wanting to go faster than you - but plenty of turnouts available.

Amazing ride, plenty of elevation change and no short of twisties. Plenty of other cool cars and bikes out as well. I actually slept in my campervan along this route, unloaded and was on my way. Hope to return some day.

Known by the locals as "ACH", one can have a lot of fun riding this road. Be care. Lots of loose gravel around. A friend went down a couple years ago...never knew what happened. He GUESSES his front washed out in the gravel. Broken clavicle & collar bone. Life flighted out. He's fine after 6-months of mending. Road rash hurts. Weekends have LOTS of COPS!

An amazing ride, one of Southern California's best. Watch the Crest, on the weekend a lot of rockets are straightening out the twisties, so bring your skills or stay out of the way. Love this route...

For being so close in proximity to the sprawling Los Angeles Metropolis ACH feels a million miles away from LA. Its rugged and scenic with epic views everywhere you look - and plenty of passing lanes and turn out spots to stop and stretch your legs if desired. Very easy ride with plenty of big sweeping turns and fairly good road conditions - not many technical turns - so suitable for novice to advanced riders. Only thing to watch for is falling rocks on hwy and day hikers parking/pulling out onto hwy. Other than that, one of the better scenic rides in So Cal. Newcombs Ranch is a big draw for bikers and seemed to be the turn-around point for many. The traffic seemed to thin out considerably after we passed Newcombs continuing up to Wrightwood, CA which is a cute little (very little) mountain town with ski slopes, gas, food and lodging. We ate at the Wrightwood brewery which has epic views and a nice spot for lunch before heading back down the mountain. Last time I rode ACH was 30+ years ago - enjoyed this trip so much more with my wife on back of bike and continuing on past Newcombs Ranch. Would highly recommend this ride to all in So Cal.

We rode recently on Angeles Crest Hwy from it's start up to Wrightwood and it did not disappoint. The day was perfect, not a cloud in the sky and the scenery was gorgeous - mainly big sweeping turns and straights - not many technical turns. Just be careful of day hikers on side of road parking/pulling out, opening doors, etc. and oncoming traffic racing across yellow line. Lunch at Wrightwood Brewery is a great place for lunch before heading back down the mountain. All in all, bitchen day!!
