Driven this section of road for better part of 20 years and it has changed as the area has gotten more developed, lots more driveways/homes, weekend it gets loaded with tourists, cyclists. Okay for the Harley/Cruiser crowd and cyclist, there are much better roads for more serious sport touring riders in So Cal, but this is one of those roads you should do once just to say you did it. Week day mid mornings are best, Rock Store may or may not be open. Avoid this area after any rains as the debris tends to roll onto the roadway for several days after.

I rode this a couple of times when I lived in LA back in the 2005 time frame. The route is short but very sweet as it has a lot of tight twisties and it snakes its way through some tree tunnels next to rock walls. You really have to keep your eyes on the road most of the time so you can't really take in the surroundings that much. But at the end (and beyond) it opens up and you get great views of the nearby valley and eventually the ocean if you keep working your way west. The Rock Store is something you need to stop at as its become an icon of a stop for the southern California riding community.

The Rock Store is an L.A. Landmark. Go there any Sunday and large crowds will be there. Jay Leno shows up all the time...typically around 8am for breakfast. In the fall of 2018, the area experienced a horrific fire (Woolsey fire). As a result, traffic on Mulholland has to cross a single lane bridge at Cornell. And, the road leading into "The Snake" was damaged...down to a single lane. Traffic is limited to residents only. It's enforced, too. No word on when the repairs are going to be made. It's rumored to be in 2020. But, that was before the virus hit. For the Roads Dept., things changed.
So, the work around for ingress/egress is via Kanan Road, Sierra Creek or Troutdale or Cornell Road to Mulholland. Encinal or Decker Canyon to PCH, or over CA-28 to T.O. Blvd. and US-101

Great place for a burger. Ride was not too technical since the Snake was closed. Still worth the visit.

Nice little short ride. The Rock Store actually has decent burgers.
