Just did this loop last weekend (mid-March 2014). Awesome views, some great places to stop (if you're so inclined) and just twisty enough to keep it interesting without turning into work. Take the time to stop at Uncle Tom's Cabin and let Robert tell you about the history of the place while you enjoy a beverage. Great ride...

Travelled this loop after Mosquito Road was washed out. Connected to Georgetown Hwy via Rock Creek Road. The vistas into Nelson Canyon and the South Fork American River were jaw dropping and a little sphincter tightening. Wentworth Springs Road still had snow near Ice House Road (15 May 2017). Highly recommended!
NOTE: Wentworth Springs Road has been repaved since the fires. Slides and debris were easily managed.

We went on this ride 8/11/04 and found it enjoyable. Yes its a bit brown due to the drought, but overall nice ride. Long roads, not busy on a Monday,a few good watering holes to stop by and a few nice lakes. Only one small patch of hard winding turns by hwy 49. A nice quick ride to get out and about.

This loop is in my backyard and when there is no snow I hit it often. This is a fantastic loop! Either on my ThruxtonR or my Indian Chieftain I have a grin on my face the entire time. Vast forest, clean twisty roads, lots of places to enjoy the scenery. This is one of the best northern California has to offer
