We just rode Hwy 33 from Baraboo to La Cross. Our destination was Hwy 35 (Great River Road) south of LaCrosse, but as usual, found our journey was far better than our destination.
This area is breathtaking! As Hwy 33 wound through the hills of the WildCat Mountain State Park, I was reminded of traveling through the Black Hills of South Dakota with is sharp curves and switchbacks. Just when you start to descending out of the hills, you find yourself passing peaceful Amish farms. Respect the buggies you pass on the road and watch out for horse apples:)
This is going to go down as one of my favorite rides in Wisconsin.

All comments are spot on. For an option take county road FF between Wonewoc and Hillsboro. It's a great detour and much better than 33 between those points. Awesome pie in Wonewoc @ Gina's.

For an added thrill, take Hwy. 82 from mid-state town of Mauston, hook up with 80 at Elroy (south), and then run into 33 at Union Center. The Mauston to 33 ride is VERY scenic, with incredible grades, twists and views between farms. Roads are very 'grippy' and in great shape; well marked and well signed. Be sure to be courteous and throttle off when passing the Amish buggy's. No need to startle the horses.

Rode from Twin Cities area to go on this route out of LaCrosse. Beautiful fall colors and nice winding road. Lost 33 at Cashton and ended up off the route. Found our way to Elroy and decided to head for home. A long day, but a great ride with beautiful scenery and a good variety of things to see with farms, hills, and forests.

Rode Rt. 33 two weeks ago from Reedsburg to LaCrosse. What a ride! Curves, hills, switchbacks through the state park. Only one kind of bad thing, the horseshit on the road from the Amish
buggies.
buggies.

One of my favorite rides. Great scenery and roads. We normally leave La Crosse around 6:30am and have the roads to ourselves

Scenery was nice. The road out of LaCrosse was really bad. Lots of bad patch jobs. Doesn't get better until HWY 27. Lots of rolling hills, turns, very little traffic. If you have time stop in Reedsburg for dinner. Check out Marty's Steakhouse 200 Viking Dr, Reedsburg, WI 53959 Great food and service. Also State hwy 58 from Muaston to richland center was great!

Wildcat Mountain State Park is to die for, awesome road... 33 is fun for about 6 miles before the park, however much of the rest of the road is very fast sweepers. I love to go and ride wildcat a few times back and forth, then move to other great roads in this area that are more technical.

I rode Highway 33 in it's entirety from Port Washington to La Crosse, and this stretch was really nice. I did this route on a Tuesday, and I practically had this road to myself. Also, it was 90 degrees that day, and this route is mostly in the shade, which made the ride more comfortable. Be sure to stop at the park to check out the overlook. Very nice.
