Hardly a road in W. Va. that I don't like, but 28 stands out. Not only is it close to unique stops (Radio Observatory, Cass Scenic Railroad), but other roads around it are well worth staying in the area for a few days.
Rt. 39 is a great companion road with this route.

We rode down 220/55/28. Very good ride. Cut on over on 55/28 thru Elkins and down to Valley Head. Took 15 W over to Sutton. WV15 had some longitudinal cut away repairs and washboard surfaces. Excellent scenery and worth the ride.

Came down 40 to 219 then 50 to 28. GREAT RIDE. Forget the Dragon. 28 has everyting you want plus no big trucks. Go into Marlinton and stop over at the Old Clark Inn. Clean, economical (cheap) and GREAT FOLKS. If you want 5 star accomodations and catered service look someplace else.If you want a good relaxing time without frills, DO IT !!!!!!!! I rode the Dragon last year, no big deal.

I took this route last fall (08) with a friend and we had a ball. It will be on my list to suggest to everyone I know who has a motorcycle as a "must ride".

The road itself isn't amazingly technical. However, it does connect to a lot of great roads like 33 250 Etc because of this it can tend to be outshined a bit, but it does not make for a boring connector road. Nice elevation for cool temps. Some nice canopy forestry going on. And just wiggly enough not to put you to sleep. Probably are real eye opener in October.
