Great ride. Just be careful. These roads are for the experienced rider. Do plan to be off the road when the deer start feeding & moving around. Did the 3 sisters run and really enjoyed it. Instead of staying in Leakey we rented a great place in Bandera and would recommend it - Antler Cabins (www. BanderaCabin.com) - to others. Only two cabins, lots of privacy, parking directly in front of your cabin's porch & windows. Cabins are smaller but very clean, reasonable & very biker friendly.

The only semi dangerous part of Hwy 16 in my opinion is a little ways from Koyote Ranch heading toward Keerville there are some sharp winding turns with steep elevation changes. If there is no oncoming traffic they arent too bad but if you have to stay in your lane or stop on those steep turns on the way up you could be in trouble.

Watch it there, cowboy! You just THINK you're good on that bike. But this road will take you to school. And if you don't respect it...it will take you to the hospital or worse.

There are massive trees all along the route. The route follows and crosses the Guadalupe River continuously. You will have trouble keeping your eyes on the road.

The roads are in good condition unless there has been flooding. Not a problem for a while now. The state will not cut the trees along the road and some are a couple of feet from the fog line.

Kerrville is full of a variety of cuisine. As I said before the Apple Store in Medina, should not be missed.

The Texas Hill Country Twister seems to be for the experienced rider even though it is only 38 miles and there are some wonderful sites that you pass through!! Though it has all the qualities of a good ride, it has only 7 out of 10 maybe because of the danger factor and the deer which can surprise you in the way!! I think this is for those riders who find a ride incomplete with that sense of risk involved!! Vehicle Wrap

Did this with my son riding his Motoguzzi V7 Stone and me on Heritage Classic in June 2021. A super ride full of twisters. We started from the Kerville side on Sunday morning. This was a good move as there was no traffic on the road. Due to this We were able to take the turns at speeds almost 50% more than posted! (?). There are quite a few turns with different radius and I would recommend only the experienced riders to go above the posted limits on turns. We encountered an RV and a pickup only in front of us moving at slow speed. Hence we stopped for a few minutes to put distance, so that we can take the turns at speed. But please be extremely careful as there are no shoulders. Do not cross the median lines at any costs. A great photo op at Medina River Crossing. In Medina, a rider on a racing bike was stopped by the cop probably for racing. Hence avoid doing so in city limits. Riders on naked bikes/sporties would love this ride more. My son on the Guzzi obviously enjoyed it more. Bandera was an experience! Had lunch at a great place called TJ’s@the Old Forge. Town was full of bikers. Will do this ride again in a few months!

In my opinion, this road is even MORE fun than the three sisters. It is very technical so NOT for an inexperienced rider. Go your own pace and pay attention to the speeds signs on the curves and you'll have a great ride.

I grew up in this area and rode this stretch of road for well over 20 years. It has improved considerably over that time. It's a better ride from North to South...Kerrville to Bandera in my opinion. Lots of great twists, tight turns, sweeping curves and beautiful scenery. The traffic can be bad on weekends and you will always have the dude pulling an RV going 25 or the guy in a sportscar doing 70. Neither is recommended for this road. RV's shouldn't be allowed on this stretch of 16 at all. BUT I DON'T WORK for DOT...lol A must stop is at Love Creek Orchards in Medina. They have THE BEST CHICKEN SALAD SANDWICH ever made. And the apple pie....HEAVEN. This road offers a little bit of everything for the experienced rider. Lots of excitement to get the blood flowing. You wont be disappointed on this trip.

Eight of us rode several of the rides in the Texas Hill Country. Great rides, great people and good roads. In Leakey we ate at "The Hog Pen" if riding on 83 you should stop for lunch. You won't regret it. We road for 5 days and all were good.

Very good ride. The curves and changes in elevation are great but need to be cautious of on coming/stopped traffic. The Apple Store/Cafe in Medina is a great place to stop for a burger or just to rest.

The warning comments are accurate. I was on that stretch of 16 several times last week. Many law enforcement officers out and about. I also agree that that road is not for begining riders. One newer rider with us was very intimidated by the hair pin curves going up and over the mountain.
Be extremely careful after dark due to deer. But it is an absolutely great road. Just be cautious.

I rode this route 10/20.2009. I rode from Fredericksburg to Bandera. The ride was great. Observe the speed limit signs around the curves as some of them are very sharp and the road is relatively narrow. It was during the middle of the day and i saw no police but did have a deer run across the road 100 feet in front of me.

The Medina River and its runoff provided a serene atmosphere unsurpassed by anything one could experience within the city. the silence was almost deafening. this ride, when paired with a meal at OST, is a condensed tour of the beauty the hill country has to offer. nice day trip

This is a heck of a road. First time at dusk, 2-up with 2 days of gear, and in the rain to boot. It was an experience to say the least. On the way back, we hit it during the day, it was dry, and we could really enjoy the ride. Definetly NOT for a beginning rider.

This is one of the best roads to ride in my experience. I've ridden 4 times now and have a blast the whole time I'm on the road. It has very tight turns in the beginning and I had to downshift the Bandit twice for more than one corner. Beautiful scenery in the spring and fall. It is your prep ride for the Three Sister route. Rest in Medina. Then head for the big ride the Sisters give you. Awesome road.

Good road lots of fun and some good sweepers and a few twisties. One caution, since last time I ran the road there are now two sets of rumble strips to wake up the sleepers and make it interesting for the bikers. These are located just before each of the tight set of twisties about a mile or two apart.
Spring also brings out a lot of cyclers, who seem to believe sharing the road only means the bikers and cagers. Use caution, give them a wide birth and the guy with the loudest horn should be out front.
