Just a heads up. FM 981 N from Lenard has a large pothole that nearly threw my passenger off the bike. It was as in the shade and we did not see it until it was too late.

The intersection of 34 and 271 past Wolfe City is marked 68 - you don't see a 271 sign for three miles along that road. (My GPS indicated that it was 68/271 if I went to a higher-resolution setting, but not at the inch-to-two-mile setting I usually prefer. Early stretches of 271 are also a little coarse and uneven due to recent patchwork, but not unsettling, even on a 900+ lb. motorcycle.

My friends and I ride a route similar to this. Since we live in Greenville, we take 69 up to 272 in Celeste, continue North on 816 to Bailey, then take the long straight 78 to Leonard where we catch 272 cutting back across just on the outside of town. Running this loop is a blast! The traffic is low, the twisties intense and the ride is amazing!

Should have read the comments first....?
Yes, 271 is labeled as 68 from 34. Also, 272 has a bridge out for construction as of 8/15/2018. If you run into this, working around it is pretty simple, since all the roads are straight in the area of the closure.
Great ride, I'm glad to find some bendy roads in TX. Fairly good quality roads, but tons of tar snakes on most of them.

Scenic route - missed the turn on 217/68 since it was marked only as 68, but otherwise a pretty decent ride. Mostly sweepers (68 perhaps being different) and pavement was good, except for the section on 470, which had patches where potholes had been filled with packed gravel and was very uneven.

Nice little trail, good pavement, some nice bends and I bet it's very pretty in the Spring (I did it in November so things were a bit brown :)). Bonham is a neat town with some good eateries and makes for a good break before your trip home.

I live in this part of the country and you screw up if you don't go through Leonard and have lunch at LEA'S. They have a great buffet with real Texas home cooked chicken fried steak like grandma used to make. Then go to the right on 69 toward Greenville and take the 1st left past the Dollar Store/Sonic back to Wolfe City. Enjoy the twisties!

Nice country ride. There are lots of nice paved county roads along the route that are fun to ride too.

Nice turns, and considerable visibility around them. My only beef is 470. There is so much subsidence that you only have the first and third portion of the lane to use. Outside third is eroding and considerably lower than the inside third. Inside third is thin, so you have to hug opposing lane. If you had to bail, you’d drop most of a foot over broken asphalt to the outer third. Rode by a guy using a cellphone on a horse that had just crapped all over my lane. I’ll ride up to 545 in the future, and skip that chunk. Better quality roads await. I liked it, all in all.

Some of the roads have gotten progressively worse on County Roads - but the County roads are the best part for scenery and twisy's.

Very nice ride until i got to Blue Ridge. They are resurfacing the roads around Blue Ridge, so there was grooved pavement, gravel and a couple of unsurfaced roads Also saw a couple of Sheriff's between Blue Ridge and Bonham. Will try this one again towards the end of Summer. 06 Ninja 250r #250Life
