Stonehenge II has moved and is no longer on 1340 west of Hunt. The property where it used to sit was sold and the owner and community had it relocated to the Hill Country Arts Foundation on the Guadalupe River in Ingram. Now, you would just continue east from Hunt and find Stonehenge adjacent to the little league fields across from the high school just before the bridge over Johnson Creek. FM 1340 is still a really nice ride, though.

For an interesting side trip take 1340 (left off of 39) and go about 5 miles. As you come around the corner you will see Stonehenge II, a 1/2 size recreation of Stonehenge in England. There is parking across the street and is free. This is worth a few minutes ride to see. You can then take 1340 to 41. Turn right towards Mountain Home, TX. You then have the option of heading to Kerrville on 27 or I-10.

Having grown up in the Hill Country this is one of my favorite areas to have ever ridden. This area will show you a part of TX people weren't aware of. The large Cypress trees along the rivers, the massive fields of wildflowers, the hills covered in giant Oak trees and the limestone cliffs that make their way to the river beds. This route has something to offer riders of all abilities. When you come into Tarpley, stop and have lunch at Mac & Ernies. Its quite the experience. This trip is good for some relaxing riding with some excitement thrown in for good measure.

Good fun ride that includes so much of what is great about the hill country. Fredericksburg is always a great place to get off the bike for a couple of hours. It’s just great beautiful riding.
