Motorcycle Type : Cruiser

This is indeed a beautiful ride, but beware of HUGE congestion in the upper reaches of Lake Ocoee. The rafters are there in force at certain times during the summer months. Numerous buses hauling them in & out are both parked on the shoulders as well as using the roadway. Not trying to scare anyone away, but please just be aware of the crowd if they are there and use extreme caution as you enjoy the trip.

My husband and I enjoy this ride almost weekly. You never get tired of the scenery, the river or the mountains. there are so many different rides that begin on this route, that you cannot go wrong in any direction! The rafting crowd is not as bad as it used to be. I think the enconomy is hurting the business somewhat. Weekdays are the best! The rafting traffice doesn't bother us, but you should be aware of the 18 wheelers. Some of them have a difficult time with the curves. Just observe the speed warnings and you will be okay. Ride Safe!!!!

Mando and I included portions of this route as we traveled via scenic highways from our homes in Southern Illinois to the Smoky Mountains. The portion of the trip in lower middle Tennessee from Waynesboro to Monteagle was on Tn 64. Tn 64 has many identities: Lawrenceburg Highway, Fayetteville Highway, McBurg Road, Winchester Highway, and, mainly, The David Crockett Scenic Highway.
Nevertheless, it is a limited access four lane highway featuring sweeping curves and splendid vistas.

After bypassing the Chattanooga area via I24 and I75, we reconnected with Tn 64 at Cleveland, Tn. This is the well know Ocoee River Scenic highway section.
We traveled the area during September, 2014. Rafting and vacationing crowds were nonexistent. Good ride.

We exited Nc 64 for Nc 74 in Murphy, Nc. to complete the last leg pf our trip to Cherokee, Nc.

327 miles covered in one day with about 250 of them on scenic highways. Plenty of gas and food along the way.
